Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew if it is possible to double major if one of those majors is film studies. Also, I have read that many of the film classes are major only. With the addition of minors at wesleyan, can you take those classes if you minor in film?

I think the only minor is in economics?

I don’t believe you can minor in film… might be wrong but I’m pretty sure you can’t

It is very possible to include film studies in a double major. Keep in mind that you need a B+ in both the intro courses to major in film. Also, film studies is a very time consuming major. (Both making and watching movies takes up a tremendous time!) So before you embark on a double major, make sure that the workload is manageable, and that neither major feels compromised.

As the above posters have stated, the film department doesn’t have a minor, and to maintain class sizes, I don’t think it ever will. That said the film department is incredible, you should watch this short lecture by the department head.

FYI: Wes will probably offer film studies MINORS within the next few years. I talked to the Director of Film Studies (Professor Basinger) and that’s what she discussed with President Roth. There might be a few minor concentrations to choose from. Personally, I don’t think double-majoring in film and any other major is a good idea if you’re grade-driven; otherwise, it would constitute a very rewarding academic life during your four years here.
