I for sure want to major in mechanical engineering; however, I either want to double major (or minor) in computer science or electrical engineering. Which one should I choose? I like both subjects. Which one would give me more job opportunities and ultimately set me up for a good future? I know both are really good fields to go into. Would it be a good idea to double minor in both? Thank you!
You should see if this is even possible at your school. Most curricula are so packed for ME that concentrations are about as much “extra” as you can get. Doubles are not typically possible and minors are rare. Now onto whether or not the distinction is even worth the paper it’s printed on. Most would say no. Simply take the extra classes you want to take. That’s what employers look at. By not being constrained by the paper chase, you could take meaningful classes in both or look at a concentration like mechatronics that uses both.
Double major and give future employers the chance to wonder what the heck you want to do for your career. Or actually what would have been in your career as they toss your resume in the round file.
New college grads, for any job that is interesting for more than a few months, will need to be trained thereby having a lot of company time and money spent on them. I always wanted to hire people who I thought were dedicated to the career path that the job I was offering presented. If I couldn’t justify that you were really interested, I wasn’t interested.
