I will be in L&S but I am interested in the majors/minors offered in the College of Natural Resources.

Is it possible to be a double major/minor at a different college?

Is the process difficult?

Is it possible to be a double major/minor at a different college?

Is the process difficult?

Minors seem to be fairly easily to do, you just take the required courses and then declare a major (not sure about CNR).

A double major in another college is called a Simultaneous Degree. They seem to be more difficult because you have to complete the additional requirements of the college (although there ought to be some overlap).

Look at Letters and Science’s humanities requirements and then look at CNR’s. Try to see what courses will count for both requirements.

Then see what the major requirements are in CNR. That way you will know all the courses you will need to take for your Major in CNR and L&S, as well as the humanities requirements. Then you will be able to figure out how many courses you need to take, and be able to figure out how many electives you can take.

As for the process you need to look at all the forms that L&S and CNR have and look for simultaneous degree forms. You will probably need a certain GPA for them to accept you (depends on college, but the better the GPA, the more likely it will work out).

Good luck.

i am really interested in CNR…i think its awesome.

i am an incoming Transfer student and have the breadth requirements complete with IGETC.

i have looked into the majors/minors that i am interested in and i have fulfilled the pre-requisites.

i will look into which courses count for both…overlap…and the Simultaneous degree ( if i choose to double major) although minor is probably what i will do.

thank you for answering my question Ramblinman (btw love the doobie bros…assuming your username came from their song…lol) :)

I’m minoring in tox, it’s not too bad

^ thnx for the link. tox seems cool!

I am in the same situation as you (except reverse) and I’ve already contacted L&S (you would want to contact CNR). Basically you just wait until the first semester and them you petition for what is called simultaneous degree (I may have spelled that wrong and I am feeling lazy). If your double major requires a class only open to that major (for instance, if you want to do CRS and you need ESPM 90)) you should definitely contact the advisor for that major too.

They told me that there really isn’t as issue with this as far as room in the colleges goes, but that transfer students definitely need to “hit the ground running” as double majors.

Good luck!

^ cool thnx for the info!
