Double Majoring Advice

Hello! This is my first time using the website so I hope I am posting in an appropriate section.

I just finished my first semester as a Freshman and I am trying to figure out my major/minor situation. For my degree I must either double major or have a minor. My question is if double majoring in Biochemistry and Political Science is a good idea? I know the two are very unrelated for the most part but I have strong interest in both. I am not pre-med but I was thinking going pre-law, but I don’t think it would make much sense with biochem. I am the first in my family to be going to college in the United States and I’m still kind of confused on how something like this would work and how to know which choice is the most viable.

If double majoring in those two are not a good idea, what are some suggestions for good majors or minors to pair with Biochem? Thanks.

Pairing Biochem with PoliSci is weird for sure, but not unheard of. As long as you thoroughly enjoy both subjects, go ahead. Just be warned that pretty much none of the credits will overlap so you’ll have to take more classes than someone double majoring in a humanities field and PoliSci (or you could minor in PoliSci and have this not be as big a problem).

Biochemistry (or chemistry, biology, statistics) and political science can prepare one very well for a career as a patent lawyer or patent examiner, specializing in say, biotechnology and drug patents.
