If my ED1 application to Bates College is rejected, I'll be attending University of Louisiana at Monroe with a full ride with added perks like an iPad and funded study abroad opportunity.

I'll be majoring in Computer Science ( BS ) and the degree is accredited by ABET.

So here's my question :-

If my uncle who lives in San Francisco finds me a CS internship there, can I work there on CPT? Or one can only work near the University under the CPT?

Please help me! I am sure my uncle would find me decent internships and the internships will benefit me a lot.

CPT has to be authorized by your university. Check with the international student office at your university to see what their requirements are. Many universities will only authorize CPT for internships that a student receives academic credit for. If your scholarship does not pay for summer credits, you might have to pay those credits yourself.

The physical location of your internship should be irrelevant for summer internships. (Part-time internships during the school year obviously need to be close enough to your university that you can also attend classes.)

If CPT falls through, you also have the option to work on OPT, which is easier to get.

Just to add…
But be careful to “save” the OPT time you have for when you graduate. If you use your OPT time early, you may not have it when you need upon graduation. Usually students use the OPT to make it easier for companies to hire you.
If you have the OPT, you can tell the recruiters with confidence “I can work legally in US upon graduation” (for a limited time, but indeed you can).

Yes, but I wouldn’t rely on that. Two reasons. First, you can only apply for an OPT extension if your employer uses E-Verify. Many don’t. Second, work visa regulations (including OPT) have been changed several times in the last decade and I wouldn’t trust that any of the current “perks” will still exist in 4 years.
