down to 2 colleges, need help making final decision!

Hi! I applied to six colleges and am finally down to two, but now i have no idea what to do.
I am between Appalachian State University and Rochester Institute of Techonology.
I live in Virginia so both of them are far away, RIT being 10 hours, and App state being 6 hours...
I really want to go to Appalachian State because I got into their music school, and really love music and really want to be a music therapist...
On the other hand, I applied to RIT not thinking I would get in or be able to afford it, but I actually got in and I have a scholarship which makes both school about 20k... I visited RIT and really liked it because it has lots of opportunities...
I thought I had decided on RIT when I got back, but now its a week later, and I keep thinking of Appalachian State, and the music therapy program, and now I don't know what to do. My parents really want me to go to RIT and my dad thinks music therapy is a stupid joke major but I really like it...

THANKS to anyone who takes time to read this!

Music therapy majors get hired. There aren't that many programs around and they're in demand.

"but now its a week later, and I keep thinking of Appalachian State, and the music therapy program"

I'm definitely with gadad on this one. It looks like Appalachian State is the place for you.

Good Luck!

Sounds like you want go to to Appalachian State?

People change majors all the time once they get to college. Your father is wrong about the major, but I would still go to RIT. These are two different stratospheres you are talking about. App State is not on the same planet at RIT.

Go to App State. That seems to be where your heart is (plus, the campus and surrounding area is much nicer, IMO).

I would choose RIT. It has a national reputation. If you hate it, you can always transfer to Appalachian State. You didn't say, but I assume that you didn't get aid from Appalachian. You will always be able to get in as a transfer student if you want to.

May I ask if you are you female? RIT is only about 25% female.

What would you major in at RIT? RIT has a lot of majors that have difficulty placing students in jobs, like their entire art college and liberal arts college. So, how would you be better off at RIT?

If you major in one of their tech fields, you will probably have to take calculus. Are you good at math? You had better check the course requirements for your intended major at RIT. You might wind up changing majors at RIT into one of their artsy majors anyway. RIT has a low graduation rate and it is even lower in engineering.

On the other hand, they have good, employable programs for women in life sciences areas, and some engineering technology areas. RIT is a good place for girls who like math.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself ><

Thanks for everyones advice!
I talked to my parents about it, and my parents won't pay if I go to Appalachian State, so now I don't know what to do because I don't know if music therapy is really worth 80k of debt when I get out of college, plus really angry parents.

Oh and to answer the question, I am a girl and if I went to RIT I would major in biomedical sciences.

Well, that settles it now, doesn't it? Going into 80K in debt is just crazy.

It's $20k a year/ $80 k a year for either App State or RIT?

I hate to say it, do RIT with your parents support. It's too late now to have to address this.

If you are driven to music therapy, there is always the Master's at your expense after undergrad.

It's unfortunate, but these types of conversations should be engaged prior to selecting choice of schools, not after acceptance.

If there are parental financial parameters that will be stipulated because of school/discipline/major choices that are made, or if student has "non-traditional" aspirations or is undecided (many are, and for a lot of parent's that is "ok" unless suzy wants be an archeologist) please communicate people.

Please realize that all are not cast in the same mold. Communicate beforehand people.

Rant over.

<it's $20k="" a="" year="" $80="" k="" for="" either="" app="" state="" or="" rit?=""></it's>

should read It's $20k a year/ $80 k for 4 years for either App State or RIT?

Too much elapsed time for an edit.
