Unanimous decision of the Board

not an interim hire by the way

Bravo, Alabama!

My D is excited. She texted me to tell me UA had hired a female president and signed off with a “no more binders!”. :)

So getting to the important question, is she competent?

M2CK seems to think she is, thats fairly reassuring to me.

I don’t think the Board of Trustees would have appointed her unanimously if they didn’t think so. Only time will give us the opportunity to evaluate her performance in this role. Here’s a bit of her background:

She is more than competent! She and Dr. Witt have worked together for some time. I think that they both share the same “vision” for the University rather than trying to make major changes and reinvent the wheel. I think she understands the workings of the University, it’s rich history and traditions.

This is wonderful news!

This lady loves The University, a lot! She is an alum and burns the midnight oil quite often on behalf of the Capstone.

Dr. Bonner has been the Provost for years; she’s certainly competant for the position. She also held the position as interim during the search for the last president, so she has already demonstrated her abilities to the Trustees. Plus, since Dr. Witt has worked closely with her over the years, he certainly would know first-hand about her abilities.

Roll Tide Dr. Bonner!

President Bonner is very competent. People in the know have told me that during President Witt’s administration, Dr. Bonner ran the day-to-day operations of the university while Dr. Witt was more of the hands off big planner.

Thanks, it’s good to have a woman, but better to have a competent leader. At the end of the day I want someone who can do the job.

I’m so excited about this news. What better choice?! I was wanting her to be up for consideration for the job back when the search began. Nay sayers of the university are going to start finding themselves with nothing to discuss. How can you say UA isn’t progressive after hiring its first female president? We takin’ over. haha Roll Tide Dr. Bonner!!!

Outside of the stated reason why Bailey resigned, various theories have been floated about his departure. Anyone care to express their thoughts on the matter?

What does this change mean in terms of the direction of the university?

i haven’t heard “various” theories, but “another” theory.

Maybe “various” was the wrong term. I’ve heard two explanations; however, one seems much more credible than the other.

By the way, he’s still being paid.

I see no reason for the university to not continue as is. Dr Witt remains at the helm as the chancellor and Dr. Bonner has been working alongside him for many years. I believe that they share the same vision for UA. I am confident that she will continue in the same direction as he has in the past, and that the university will continue to prosper.

I agree. I think Dr. Bonner is/was a devotee to the Witt Vision. I don’t see her changing course, but perhaps adding a few of her own fingerprints that will enhance, not hinder, the Witt Vision.

Tonight, I think I saw Dr. Witt standing near Saban at the Trophy Presentation. Did anyone see Dr. Bonner up there? She may have been off-screen, or maybe she was unable to attend?

I’m sure she was there. She went with the team to the White House earlier this year. No reason she wouldn’t be unless she was sick.
