Both my parents came from Cuba, so I know what you mean. ;)

marmadillo--how many nominations can Bond give to the Naval Academy? i got one from him on the 7th. About the dreams...yep, i have that bug too.

lizgirl06 - supposedly they can give a list of 10 candidates for every spot they have open at the academy - they are allowed 5 students at each academy at one time. But candidates with LOAs don't count against something (or so I've heard)...does that help?

Oops, just got a call from Teresa Poole at Bond's office...I got my appointment through my representative! She felt bad that she gave away the surprise, but she wanted to make sure it was okay if she gave away my nomination to someone else since I don't need it any more!!! WOOHOO!!

Oh if only the United States Postal Service sent stuff faster!

Ummmmm.......

You DO have that nomination from your representative IN WRITING, don't you?

If the answer is no, call that person back IMMEDIATELY and tell them they can either fax it or hold your other nomination until you've got at least one IN WRITING.

This is the GOVERNMENT we're talking about here, as well as YOUR LIFE. Don't trust ANYONE.

Definitely got it in writing, and already wrote a thank you...plus, my acceptance arrived in the mail not 20 minutes after I got off the phone with her!!

Good!

Congratulations!

Now comes the HARD part. ;)

Hey, NAPS06 from New Bern --

Was just reading your posts...don't let go of your dreams, and don't think less of them because you are from New Bern...I spent many a year down there in NC...and I only say "down there" because at the time I was a "transplanted Yankee"... when Yankees didn't attend southern schools.... New Bern is a sweet little place...Always hold it dear...I do...Someday you will realize what an exceptionally wonderful place you come from...and that will give you strength...

My dreams?....back to the days when I could drive through New Bern...visit Tyrone Palace...surf at Emerald Isle and Bogue Inlet...
and (stare/gape/whatever...drool?) at all those gorgeous Marines at Camp LeJeune!!!...

HA! "REM" sleep! I learned that term in AP Psychology! Yeah, you need a lot of those.

Thanks Mama Sparrow. I know i'll miss it, but at the moment i can't wait to get out. Plus my family is moving next year to NAS Jacksonville FL. I guess if you haven't been here it can be fun, but i've kinda worn everything else out so i'm ready to move on to greener pastures. But New Bern is a very nice town to raise a family.

Rosa

thanks marmadillo.

marmadillo--Just out of curiousity, why do you want to go to Annapolis instead of a regular college?

Eek, this is like being back in the MOC interview! But seriously, I want to give something back to society - when I was little, I thought I wanted to be a teacher. As I grew up, I realized that serving my country is one thing I could do where I KNOW I will make a difference and will always be proud of what I do (I'm the kind of person who cries when they play the national anthem at the Olympics).

I applied for ROTC and NROTC as well as USNA and USMA, but the academies have been a goal of mine for the last few years because I know that the military/leadership/scholastic training there is the highest caliber to be found in the nation. I really can't imagine myself at another college right now...USNA is the only college visit I've made and that's how I see myself spending four years after high school...not going to parties and rushing sororities and getting drunk like so many of my friends are doing this year.

yeah, we have a different kind of fun. Plus, what other college gives you guns on the first day? and clothes you? and keeps you in shape with wonderful trainers?

I dreamed last night of squaring corners--BEAT ARMY!

I had my most realistic USNA dream yet. I was standing in line to get my uniform and i was getting my sea bag filled with uniforms and other stuff. I was reading my reef points, and some detailers were yelling at me, all the detailers were people i know from USNA. After a whole "day" of this stuff i chopped to King Hall and ate in that wierd plebe way.

Very cool. Then i remember thinking, wait, i have to go to NAPS first.

Rosa

Wow had a weird one last night where I had gotten into the Naval Academy but was having to go to other college interviews and didn't know how to wear my uniform and the only shoes I had were roller blades and then this girl from my school (who is DECIDEDLY NOT going into the navy) had her uniform on...kinda...and took me to a dry cleaner's so they could show me how to wear it. And we were in the middle of a big city, either NY or Chitown...definitely not Annapolis. It was so strange and I missed my interview in the dream and was really upset.

wow. that's. . . . . weird.

no, super weird

My daughter - who does not read these forums and only hears about them through me....and does not know about the "dreams" thread...told me that last night and the night before she dreamt that she was with Condeleeza Rice in a military role...she was in full dress blues and working with her. One night of dreaming that is interesting...2 nights in a row...hmmmmmmmmmmmm...I wonder if all you Candidates for 2010 have imagined WHO will sign YOUR commission???? I told my daughter I hope her dream is really a prophecy, not just a fancy wish.

I've often imagined Condi signing my commission. It beats some of the other possibilities.. . .

Yessssssssssssss, it does................

I did mention once to my daughter one of those ........

you should have seen her face

Teehee. Merry Christmas.
