Dressing Young (Part 1)

Aww… those darn pets incompatible with our wardrobe. Absolutely in love with the color. Can be easily accessorized.

A PSA: if you wear lots of black, don’t get a white pet.

On the opposite end of the shopping spectrum, I cleaned out my closet today. I should have done it prior to our move, but I did not. I got rid of many dressier things - particularly things I have worn to past weddings. The reality is that if I get invited to a wedding, I am going to want something new. I also got rid of more cold weather clothing. Living in Florida now, I just don’t need it, and I do not anticipate spending lots of time anywhere cold. It can be cold in Arkansas where ds’s family is, but how much clothing does one need for a couple of weeks around the holidays?? And, again, I am likely to want new things. Lastly, I got rid of some dressier clothes that I used to wear to church. For better or worse, we have been so much more faithful in our church attendance since Covid started and we have been attending online! I wonder if we will ever go back to attending live services??? It’s awfully fun watching online and drinking coffee in pjs! If/when we do go back, we attend the contemporary service anyway, which is more casual. I just do not need much dressy clothing (even though I love it).

I hope to get through the drawers and shoes over the weekend.

Awesome job @Hoggirl! I cleared some space in my closet for my new arrivals. ?

I haven’t bought anything in at least 5 months. Yesterday my work jeans had a blowout in the thigh while out at a project. Alas, not a cute rip at the knees which is the current style. Didn’t have any duct tape so had to use blue painting tape wrapped around my thigh because I’m pretty sure the guys don’t need to see my old lady cellulite showing through. I blamed it on the Government requirement to Stay at Home and Eat. Pretty sure they told us to lie on the couch, don’t leave the house, and eat?? I have not been successful in picking up an ambitious exercise regime.

But now I really need new work jeans but cannot imagine buying jeans without trying them on.

Had a great chuckle about government fat ass mandates! So true, @coralbrook! If you know the make and model so you speak, search for those on Poshmark or whatever retailer or resale site. Or buy things from Costco or Nordstrom. Best return polices. I have not stepped a foot into a B&M store that sells clothes (other than Costco) since February, but I got so much new new stuff through online shopping- it all fit!!

I did order a pair of grey jeans from Macy’s online … but they were exact same brand/style as a denim pair that I already own.

I have a question about a sale item. A clothing line is going out of business and the prices are really good.

This is the coat I’ve been looking at https://shop.galmeetsglam.com/marnette-kc034m-bagy

I can’t decide if it’s too young looking for me.

I also like this one, it’s a little shorter so might look better on short me. I’m 5’1”

I sort of kind of grew out of my nice wool coat, so I could use a dressier coat for the few occasions that I need one.

I like that first coat. It’s a classic style and youthful in. a good way. It’s more sliming and elongating that the second one. Personally, I’m not a fan of coats with belts, I prefer a fitted style. The belt adds so much bulk the mid section and always seems to be hangin in a funny way.

I’ve been on a quest for some cute sneakers. My feet are a bit wonky in that I have super high insteps and the one foot can’t stand pressure on a certain point of the instep. I have high arches, normal width in the front but a narrow heel. With all that…

I think I found them, and I think I’m in LOVE.

With the proper insole they are super comfy and they heel doesn’t slip.

Might get more colors as they become available.

deb922, I am also petite (5’2") and find I have to buy overcoats in petite sizes, not just for length but for sleeve length.
dietz199, those shoes are really cute.

Do any of you sell items on Poshmark? D2 has gone through her closet and has many gently worn items from higher end shops that she would like to try and sell. Normally she takes everything to a couple of places here in town that buy younger, trendy clothes, but they only give her a small portion of what they sell items for. My question really is do you have any suggestions for taking pictures or listing items to help get them sold? D is going to choose 10 to 15 of her nicest items and we are going to take pictures today so she can post them and see what happens.

@showmom858 My D20 has sold a bunch of stuff on Poshmark. Good lighting, close up pics of details like tags (especially for purses) seem to help. Poshmark does make it super easy by including shipping costs in their cut and generating shipping labels. DePop is another site that seems to be popular lately, but I don’t know much about it.

@showmom858 - there was a recent thread about selling on Poshmark. Let me dig it up.

@deb922 - I like the first coat better. Also not a fan of belts. But Gal Meets Glam is closing? Dang. Nordstrom carried it. Cute dresses… I see that they are 70% off… guess Nordstrom will no longer carry it.

I am about 5’5” and medium build. I am lusting after a jumpsuit because my brain thinks it will elongate my figure, with a wedge or short heel. Cannot do high heels anymore. Tried to wear some high heels last week and I couldn’t even walk after 10 minutes, my feet hurt too much.

Have you guys tried jumpsuits? I would need a 3/4 sleeve because I hate my flabby upper arms. Without being able to try anything on I need some reassurance that it is a good style for short/medium people versus the tall skinny model

@coralbrook I am about your height, and I wear jumpsuits. Mine are sleeveless for summer, but I also have a short sleeved one “for the office.”

(I love jumpsuits! I few years ago I fell in love with and bought a DVF jumpsuit and I wore it to our NYE dinner in San Diego during our stopover on the way to Hawaii. )

I hate jumpsuits. Too hard to go to the bathroom. I like the way they look.

@deb922 I like both the coats but it is hard to say how they would look on. I wouldn’t buy them without being able to return them. Also, I think the grey/black plaid would be more “me” and the color of the other one would not suit me. They seem quite different in terms of color so I would expect that if one suits you, the other wouldn’t!

Jumpsuits–when they look good on someone, I love them. I haven’t had great luck with the ones I’ve tried on. My daughter sent me some really funny photos of herself trying on jumpsuits that looked so cute in the ads but looked hysterically awkward on her. She has a great body but the jumpsuits she tried just didn’t have the right proportions somehow.
But last summer, back in the olden days when I had some opportunities for people-watching in a busy neighborhood, I saw a number of women looking fantastic in jumpsuits.

Hard to go to the bathroom!! I remember being young and I had a favorite jumpsuit. Of course I decide to wear it on an airplane in the olden days. Oh boy, the gyrations in the teensy smelly restroom on the plane were hilarious. What was I thinking??

Thanks, I think I’m not going to buy the coat. I really like it but am afraid the proportions will be off. It’s nice to window shop though.

At the end of last summer, I bought a really cute stretch crepe Eileen Fisher jumpsuit. It’s so cute! Alas now I have no where to wear anything nice. I just tried it on, it’s. So cute. Maybe I’ll go out to a nice dinner at some point.

I try on stuff in my closet and dream about the places I’ll go
