Drexel EA 2024

I received the portfolio scholarship as well.

@akap04 they could’ve honestly thought that because of your really high scores and GPA that you weren’t gonna pick Drexel, they often do this to try to make their yield higher it sucks

@izrk02 found it! Probably just took a bit to load up for people!!!

DS 20 got in Comp Sc
4 years, 1 co-op
Can someone explain what is co-op?

I got in lol. Aid+scholarships came to 37k per annual. Did anyone get in for fashion?

@akap04 - Did you call them. What did they say?

@akap04 What’s your unweighted GPA?

I’m sorry you didn’t get in. What’s your unweighted GPA? It could be any number of reasons. It could be that there are only so many slots and they got many good applicants this year. My son is going through the process this year. Sometimes it seems like no rhyme or reason for decisions and merit scholarships.

@Polaris1820 Co-op is a program that some colleges have where in order to graduate you have to do a year-long internship or job instead of attending class. Drexel has it where instead of getting off during the summers, you do co-op during one school year (or three depending on your admission), and go to class during the summer.

@x0w6342 tbh Drexel’s arts programs aren’t that well-known in the industry. Drexel is known for its engineering and stem programs. If your kid is really intent on pursuing art, Drexel should be a backup.

My son is music industry–deferred yesterday. ???

That is not totally true. Drexel’s Fashion program is ranked #8 in the US and #16th in the world and the design programs are also highly accredited.

@iamironman3 I’m speaking mostly for media arts. If someone wants to go into animation or film, a BFA program would be better than a BS or BA, which Drexel doesn’t offer.

@akap04 I agree with the person above, they probably assumed that it’ll be your safety school, and they don’t want to offer admission to someone who will probably end up elsewhere.

Drexel’s animation program may not be up there with the elite of the elite in animation (CalArts, Ringling, USC, RISD, etc), but it is a solid option. The rankings at Animation Career Review have Drexel as #35 overall for animation this year.

I agree that it is a different approach from a BFA program, but Drexel still has a solid foundation in the fine arts core curriculum and people in the industry seem to be aware of that. Drexel grants a BS degree because all undergraduate degrees from Drexel are B.S. - in addition to the core in your major, the school makes sure you have a solid STEM foundation as well.

Drexel is a good option depending on what aspect of animation you are interested in.

Our HS senior has it on their list as it is the highest ranked animation program close to home that has the aspects of animation that they are interested in.

Drexel animation is definitely worth considering if you are aware of the specifics and what that means to your potential path in the animation industry.

Temple notified my son of his aid award in his official letter in the portal, not the letter in the package that was mailed home.

Thanks @izrk02 for the clarification

My understanding is that the BS/MD 4+4 program is hard to get in. As for BME, I am surprised that you are not accepted with those stats. I am not sure if my son ended up applying for BME or Mechanical but he did get accepted. If you are looking at the MD program, have you research Rowan?

We find it a little disappointing that it still going to cost roughly $32K for him after merits. With his stats, we will wait to hear from other schools first. We are pretty sure that he is going to be accepted at Northeastern, will wait and see that that package is going to be.

Drexel works off of quarter system so co-op is not just the summer. The two main co-op programs at Drexel are 5 or 4 years. In a 5 year program, the 3 co-op are done in year 2-4. For 4 year, one co-op is done in Junior year. Co-op term are two quarters.

Wondering if there are “spring break”, “winter break”, “summer vacation” in the quarter schedule? If not, how long the “break” between two quarters?
