Drexel Scholarships class of 2020

Also is there anyone else in this forum who got a 50K+ scholarship ? please don’t be reluctant and shy and share your stats!

My daughter received about $40K scholarship and grant two years ago. She is in the Westphal school. I really think it depends upon the major and the school. Because in no way is even close to a NMS.
Her first quarter she was in a dorm with many of the Liberty Scholars–kids form Philly with full rides.
Despite her generous award, and in hindsight, i think we are paying too much.

i was accepted into the Global scholar program and therefore with the combination of the drexel grant and the a.j scholarship as well as the global scholars scholarship, all my direct cost(about 65k) were given to me as scholarship. :-j

My daughter got AJ Drexel scholarship, Drexel Grant and Portfolio scholarship, totalling about 40K. She will also be in honors college. She is 99% sure she’ll be going there.
@momneeds2no, why do you think you are paying too much?

Major: biological sciences (no co-op)
honors college: no
ACT: N/A
SAT: 1770
GPA: 3.8UW/4.0 4.25W
Race: mexican
Sex: female

Award:
Drexel Grant $19,350
AJ Drexel Scholarship $16,980

any early actions or early decision folks included in the above? Thanks
BTW here are the 2017 sticker prices

Tuition $49,632

Fees $2,405

Room and Board $13,890

@JerseyParents That makes 2017 price $65,927. Why does collegedata have it totaling $71,763? Drexel is a long shot for my D and the price tag is also difficult to swallow. Your number sounds much better!

tuition for freshman and seniors is higher (because you are in class for 3 quarters). sophomore, pre-junior and junior year you only pay tuition for the 2 quarters that you are in class. For the 2 quarters that you are on co-op, you only pay a fee of $790 for each quarter, no tuition is charged for co-op). the numbers above reflect the first and last year at Drexel.

@mommabear67 thank you for the explanation

We toured the school yesterday. It was COLD! Son was unimpressed. Music Industry program - RMAP concentration and a performance minor would be his path. He feels it would not be creative enough for him.

I don’t agree I like the practical side of the Drexel program. Philly is a good place to be a musician. too.

@pct3 @JerseyParents
I Think the discrepancy in cost is related to “direct billed” v. “Cost of attendance”. Direct billed is the amount you pay the university. Cost of attendance includes direct billed cost plus anticipated expenses like books, travel, etc.

@JerseyParents my daughter is in the Westphal school, but not the music program. She also looked at and was accepted to “art schools” (Scad, Pratt, etc), liberal arts colleges, and our state university. To us, Drexel’s unique method of blending a creative, subjective discipline with practical experience was the selling point. Her program focuses on developing a portfolio which showcases marketable skills. I’ve seen some of the student workproduct and came away impressed with the varity of style and technique used to approach similar assignments. There’s definitely room for creativity inside a well defined structured curriculum. For my daughter it was an excellent fit. I’ve seen her confidence, her abilty to Manage multiple deadlines grow. I’d also offer that having a strong tech base (and Drexel stresses the tech side of arts) is key in many modern creative pursuits. And, in my opinion, Philadelphia is a top city for college students.

thanks! I’ll have my son read your post

So is it possible to get full ride or full tuition?

@AimingTop50 Yes it is possible. Both my brother and I receive full tuition scholarship.

@Brinette
How did you recieve it? Did you need to apply EA? Separate App?

Thanks.

@AimingTop50 We both apply EA. As international students, we did not apply for FAFSA, but fill out CSS profile on CollegeBoard. Both of us receive A.J.Drexel Scholarship (merit-based) that is around $22,000. We also receive Drexel grant about $25,000. So both of the scholarship cover almost the entire tuition.
