I’m currently a Sophomore at Drexel University studying Biomedical Engineering but am planning on switching to Computer Science/Software Engineering. I’m not seeing the ROI from Drexel that I expected to see. I’m from MA and Umass Lowell offers great STEM programs for about 1/4 the tuition of Drexel (for state residents).
I would love any input on how the two schools compare, and if it’s worthwhile to transfer. See my previous post for more details of the circumstances. Thanks.
I would like to know this as well. I am in the same boat OP, except I am going from a CC to either Lowell or Drexel. From what I can understand both school got decent co-op programs.
I toured and got accepted into Lowell’s CS degree, but I know nothing about Drexel. How expensive are your tuitions over at Drexel btw? Umass Lowell gave me the standard financial aid for 3k a year and that’s about it. My EPC is zero.
Congrats on being accepted! Both schools do have co-op programs, though Drexel’s is more structured and the majority of students participate in at least one co-op. While Lowell does have a co-op program, my understanding is that it’s less structured and not built into the curriculum. Instead, one’s curriculum can be fashioned around a co-op, or you can pursue a three-month summer internship. Regardless, I’m glad Lowell values experiential learning.
Drexel tuition is about $55k/yr plus around $15k for room & board, and these figures assume three-term enrollment. I personally am not seeing value proportional to the tremendous cost of attendance when schools like Umass Lowell exist with strong STEM programs, assistance in getting experiential learning positions, etc., which is why I’m considering transferring.
