I have read a few posts (elsewhere) that make me fear that Conn’s primary social outlet is getting drunk, with lots of casual hook ups to follow. From what I have read, there are not a lot of weekend options other than this. Can any current or former students comment on whether these posts are valid? Thank you.
I’m a current student at Conn and I have found out from my time here that if you do not want to participate in drinking you do not have to. There’s plenty of other opportunities on campus that are created by students for students. I have never gone a weekend without anything to do.
From my experience, there are a lot of weekend options for students that are not just going to parties. The student government creates activities school-wide as well as your own dorm also organizes events. If you want to participate in parties then there is a scene for that but if you don’t there are so many more options. If you also are part of a club, most likely they’ll also have some event.
In regards to living, we do have options for substance-free housing that immediately puts you within a community of people who are not looking to participate in parties. Those people can lead to creating a community of friends who are likeminded and not interested in alcohol.
