drinking prevalence/party school?

this is a question for any current students (or alumni, i guess).

i'm highly considering delaware (honors program, if that makes a difference), but i just wanted to know how prevalent alcohol is. i've heard it has had a reputation as a party school, so would you say that there were enough other things to do besides drinking, or is it a necessity? does everyone do it?

i'm not saying i definitely wouldn't drink at all, but i can see it being a nuisance when i actually want to sit down at night and study or sleep, and an overabundance of it can definitely be a problem.

thanks :)

This topic pops up every so often. My son chooses to stay in on occasional weekend nights if he has lots of work to do, and he’s never had any problems sleeping or getting his work done because of rowdiness in the dorm (and he’s not in honors).

I think much of the drinking goes on off-campus because of the strict on-campus rules.

Esquire (or maybe GQ I forget which) ranked Delaware as one of the top “Show me your boobs” schools. Just sayin

UD is a HUGE party school. If you chose to participate in all that…well, that is your choice.

There have been at least 10 topics this year on the party scene at UD.
UD mom is right. It is a huge party school. There are 16000 students and only 2 don’t party because they’re nuns. The profs all party and no one goes to class. They just make up grades based on how good the drugs and drink are at your party. It’s a 7 day a week thing, it just never ends. You never see anyone one actually walking on campus. Either they’re at a party or sleeping it off. And except for the 2 nuns, they’re all preppies with BMWs. Actually the nuns share a BMW. And you don’t ever have to worry about the cops - they party too! And watch out for anyone in the honors program. Those chemical engineering students make the BEST mixed drinks. Really.

Your post made me smile. Point taken. : )
