Drinking problem at Colby?

I hear that there is a drinking problem at Colby and read that a bunch of kids were arrested a few weeks ago for underage drinking after a bus taking kids from an off campus party was pulled over for speeding. Police cite 22 underage Colby students who hired bus to take them to party for drinking ? Mid-Maine ? Bangor Daily News ? BDN Maine. Last year 90 kids were arrested 90 Colby students face charges after rowdy party, police say ? Mid-Maine ? Bangor Daily News ? BDN Maine. Does anyone know more about this?

My best friend is a sophomore at Colby and she does drink quite often (from my perspective at least). If you prefer not to party or be around people who do, then perhaps Colby is not the place to be, but my friend has told me that there’s plenty to do besides drink, if you choose not to. She might be a little biased because she loves Colby with all her heart and would never say anything against it, but it doesn’t seem like a “problem” to me, just a fairly prominent part of campus culture.

There’s something for everyone. If you don’t drink, great, there’s no pressure to.

The students were going to an off-campus party and hired a professional bus for transportation. The purpose of the bus was to completely, utterly eliminate the possibility of drunk driving. The bus got pulled over because the driver was speeding, not because the police “knew” there happened to be college students on the bus. It was frustrating for the underage students who received summons because they knew they were trying to do the right thing to get back to campus safely. (I think it is naive to assume college students, underage or not, don’t drink.)
