wondering what kind of drinking atmosphere there is? I'm not a drinker, I know it's everywhere, does anyone have any comparisons to other colleges?

Deeeeefinitely not nearly as much drinking here as at other colleges. I've never attended another college, but from visiting friends I can tell that the partying with alcohol atmosphere is stronger just about anywhere else. Including religious colleges. If Wellesley students want to get drunk, they go to MIT or BU.

I would beg to differ. The drinking amount here varies depending on who you socialize with. Although prelude is right in that drinking is more apparent at other schools, Wellesley girls drink A LOT, especially for oncampus and MIT frat parties. The adage here is that you can't have fun at an on campus party without getting drunk...so, it usually ends up with a lot of drunken girls. Of course, I would say that a lot of women here don't drink at all..but the ones that do definitely can hold their liquor, and a lot of it.

The visible drinking culture on campus is nearly non-existent. Yeah, there's alcohol aplenty if you look in the right places, but it's pretty tame. What drinking there is, it doesn't interfere with other students who would rather do something else. My current university, by comparison, is the kind of place where you don't go downtown on weekend nights unless you want to be surrounded by a thousand incoherently drunk students who find it amusing to walk into traffic.

So ... no, it isn't a big drinking school.

I agree with Ringer. Students drink, but you have to know where to look (try cult type organizations). It depends on who you hang out with as far as individual students go, but my friends didn't start drinking frequently (for them, they don't drink to get trashed, they have one to three drinks) until after we were all 21.

I'm not a drinker, either, but I'd say I'm pretty happy with how things are at Wellesley. I know they could be so much worse at other places.

That's good to hear. There are so many colleges that I like, but the students seem to drink and use drugs a lot. I know that there is going to be alcohol on any campus, but its good to hear its not as prevalent at Wellesley. Thanks for replying.

"Where we drink wine, not beer" lolol

Correction. "Where we drink hard liquor, not any of that weak stuff"..

Ahahahaha--I have to second the liquor comment.

It's true. Wellesley is a dry campus on a dry town, and visible drinking is next to nil. However, alcohol's available if you want it, and upperclasswomen are generally very nice if you want them to pick something up in their liquor runs. Make friends at Olin and MIT. Engineers drink like fishes, and they appreciate girls, LOL.
