Driving permit

I am 14 years old. I will be 15 this summer

I would like to know about the application process for a learner’s permit. Can I take a course like this one: https://driversed.com/georgia/teen-drivers-ed.aspx# and then when I’m 15, get a permit?

What is the application like to get a learner’s permit?

Thank you!

You shouldn’t need driver’s ed to get a learner’s permit. In my state, you just take a short multiple-choice test at the DMV. They have little booklets that you can use to study for the test.

Go to your state’s official DMV site. The site you linked looks like it’s trying to make a profit for a driver’s prep course. I’m in VA so our rules might be different. My kids picked up a learner’s permit guide and studied it. You might be able to download it. When they were ready they went to DMV with me and took the driving test on line. They had to be 15.5 years old (I think) and have a learners for six months before they were eligible for a driving permit. They also had to take driver’s ed in school and not miss a certain number of classes.

When they were ready for the license they had to take 45 hours of behind the wheel training. The teachers give the final test and issue a temporary license. The student is notified a few months later to come to Juvenile Court. They sit through a lecture by a judge and are given their license at the end of the ordeal. Driver’s Ed is free in public school but behind the wheel cost about $200. The way my youngest son’s schedule worked we had to pay a private driving school and it was only $260.

Don’t make the mistake of not studying the driving manual before you test but you do not have to pay an outside test prep company. If you’re focused now on becoming a good driver there are lots of videos on YouTube for free. My son taught himself how to drive a 5 speed from YouTube.

Thanks
