Hey HSL!
I joined the swim team this year and had a really hard time. It ate up a lot of my life and I had a hard time keeping up my grades and other EC's that I actually enjoy because of it. However, I am desperate to get into Dartmouth. I'm not involved in any other sports, and it's my sophomore year; if I drop swim, could this have a potential impact on my admission/rejection? If anyone has had experience in this area, it'd be a great help =)
Thank you!
(P.S. I'm also on a non-competitive swim team [off of the high school season, of course] at my local community center and would love to keep that up; would you recommend this, or just dropping swimming as a whole?)

It’s probably not gonna make or break you so just do what you want to do. You won’t believe my now but you’ll probably be dead set on at least two or three different schools by the time you graduate. Trust me, I’m a senior, I’ve been through it. Don’t be desperate to get into any one college. There are plenty out there that will fit your needs.

From what I’ve heard, not participating in a sport does not have a huge impact on the admissions process.

Ask in the College Admissions forum though - you’ll get better responses.

In short, dropping a sport is not bad for college.

Sports just add to your EC’s. Even being captain of the team hardly matters unless you’re being recruited by colleges. You seem like you aren’t the teenage Michael Phelps so it doesn’t matter.

The upside is that sports are fun. Have fun with your youth.
