Dropping out of high school after accepted...

I have recently decided to weigh the logistics of dropping out of high school this semester.
To quickly go over myself:
admitted to MIT and CalTech, Siemens/Intel semifinalist, currently taking complex analysis, graduate graph theory, and abstract algebra at USF.

Caltech told me today that there is no need for me to finish my high school diploma (I need PE, English, government, and econ) and I could attend next year as is. Does MIT require a high school diploma/could I still go there next year if I do not complete high school?

I will finish my courses at USF, the reason I want to do this is to gain the time to take electricity and magnetism which has a class time during school and also give me the opportunity to continue my research (I now have no time after school to do this) and begin math research with another professor.

What is CC's thoughts on the matter?
Thanks for your ideas

“High school diploma or equivalent is not required.”

I’m pretty sure that this is intended for homeschooled students and people that apply as juniors, so you should probably check to make sure MIT doesn’t mind.

And also, if you don’t mind, could you post the classes you took?

You should definitely e-mail the admissions office and ask - it’s also good to have a plan in mind and not go with ‘sit in my parents’ basement and play videogames for a semester’. You mentioned that you were interested in doing research - it would probably be helpful to say “I have a research position lined up with XYZ prof and would be taking these classes instead”. I would think that it’d also be legit to graduate early / drop out and work for ~8 months, for example, if you were concerned about finances.

You’ll also have to inform all of the other colleges that you’ve applied to. Good luck!

Yeah, I called the admissions office and they gave me the email of the person I need to contact and I told them this.

Basically I’d rather be spending time in the lab and doing research and being able to take another physics class and have more time to spend on the classes I’m in thatn worry about english and PE…

As I said, Caltech already told me it was fine and my first choices are here and Caltech. The only other place I applied was Harvard.

Classes I’ve taken at USF or in high school?

Classes at USF - why would you be taking classes in high school if you’re dropping out?

Wow, you sound like your in the position I may be in next year. Those required classes like pe are a pain.

oh, taking graduate level graph theory, complex analysis, and abstract algebra

would add electricity and magnetism if I had the time
