I don't do drugs or drink, and I have no intention of changing that. However, the colleges that I'm looking at mostly LACs, Beloit in particular, seem to have a consensus of much drinking and drugs like pot. It wouldn't bother me too much unless my roomate came and threw up or smelled bad or made the room smell bad. There are substance free dorms at Beloit.....would the problems be taken care of?

I go to Grinnell, another midwestern LAC, and, while there are tons of people that drink and smoke, it’s not an issue for the students who want to avoid it. No one’s gonna make you go to a party, and I haven’t seen any pressure at all to drink or smoke. I don’t know about Beloit, but Grinnell is a very open, understanding campus, where you’re free to do or not do what you want. There are more sober people at any given party than you would expect.

your safest bet is to get a single dorm. that way you can lock yourself in your room at all hours of the day, and pretend that sex, drugs, and drinking doesn’t happen at your college. hiding and denying it will definitely make everything all better! :D

It’s an LAC, I assume they are high 90% of the time. It’s not like they have anything to do.

I can only speak for Pomona, but here, there’s absolutely no pressure to do anything if you don’t want to. You could easily live in a sub-optional dorm and still avoid drugs and alcohol if you want. Unless your roommate is just terrible, you should be fine.

Purple - Haha… yeah.

Do you receive surveys at that school to help set you up with a roommate? I went to a small LAC and the surveys asked about drinking habits, study habits, being up late/getting up early, etc. Ask your admissions counselors about that.
