Drum Major or Robotics Co-President

Hi, please help me out on this.

I’m a sophomore and coming up to leadership selection for next year. My school has a competitive marching band, and I’m auditioning for Drum Major. However, on the same days, I have interviews for robotics leadership. I’m running for VP of CAD, VP of systems and Co-President(technical side).

Problem is, band results come first (Monday vs Tuesday), but my first choice of a position would be co president in robotics, with drum major being next. I don’t want to get drum major but have it be bitter sweet by finding out I would have been co president. On the other hand, I don’t want to turn down Drum Major and end of with a VP position when i could have been DM, or even worse, end up with nothing. Things to consider are that i could still be a rank leader in band if i’m not a drum major. In robotics i could also participate in the drive team (as I did next year), but I really would like to get a more significant position. I fear that mentioning such things to the robotics adviser and band director would lower my chances at positions because they would regard it as stat padding, even though i really do want to be these positions, just some more than others.

How would you guys go about it? Drop out of drum major now, not drop out and take drum major if I’m selected, or try to talk to the adviser and director to resolve the conflict (not firmly choosing leadership)?

Thanks for the input

Do drum major! because marching band is LIIIIIIIIIFE!!!1!!!11111!!!1!111!11!

On a more serious note, how much conflict would there be if you were to do both?

In response to the first comment:
Do robotics! Because FRC is lifeeeeee!!!1!!1!!1!!!

If you want to do both, I would probably ask one of the advisers to move you tryout /audution thingy earlier. I don’t know how your school is, but if you’ve been involved in both for a good amount of time, I see no reason that they would think that you were just padding your resume. Really think about how much you can commit to both though, even though marching band takes a break in the winter (I think?) there are still many parts of the FRC season that happen in the fall and if your team does well, the competition season runs into the spring. I know for the kids who do both band and robotics on my team often have scheduling conflicts, so yeah.

^Yes, you can just say you have a conflict with the current date/time. You don’t have to specify why.

TBH the only conflict really arises when you have competitions on the same day (for example, I had to choose between winterguard and Science Olympiad this year; I chose the former because it makes me happier, even if I don’t have many STEM-related activities). If that is the case, then you have a problem.
