Hello all. I'm currently filling out the common application and I would like to know whether or not I should state that I have dual U.S. citizenship. I'm also an Iranian citizen, but I realize that the U.S. and Iran do not have good relations. If I put down that I was a citizen of Iran as well, would this hurt my chances, or improve them because of diversity? Thanks.

I can’t imagine a college thinking badly of you for being an Iranian citizen. I think they’d actually probably find that interesting because you come from an interesting and uncommon background. It’s probably not going to help or hurt you at all, but if it had any effect at all, it’d probably be positive.

That’s what I was thinking, but I just didn’t want to take the risk. Also, I forgot to mention, will it hurt my chances of receiving financial aid?

No

I’ve been getting denied by match schools, and the only thing I can think of that would be hurting my application is this.

I’d think harder; that’s not the reason you’re getting denied.
