My D has got admitted to UC Berkeley. She is interested in pursuing ‘Biology+Business’ - a newly introduced integrated Dual degree program which gives BA in Biology and BS in Business. Her plan is to pursue MBA after a few years after her Undergrad. She plans to be a business leader (Marketing, Entrepreneur) in Molecular Medicine or related areas. She is contemplating if the Dual Degree program will give an edge in her career or will it result in her diluting her BA in Biology. I would appreciate any feedback on this topic.
If it is a new program, not enough is known yet as to whether it will be a bad choice.
She should look at the specific degree requirements to see what kind of differences exist for the bio portion of this program and a biology major. Then she can decide if she wants to pick up any missing classes from the bio major as part of her electives.
Thank you for your response. Good idea.
There is a similar program in uPenn - LSM (Life Science and Management). It has been around more than a decade. It is much more structured program with two paid internship in Junior and Senior year. Berkeley’s program is fairly new. The students are admitted to this program in the Junior year. The first batch is entering Junior year in Fall 2020. The adviser for this program is very helpful and responsive though.
