Ok so I have a choice... Should I take all honors/AP classes at high school my 11th grade year and than dual enroll at Georgia Tech or Emory for 12th grade? Or should I take classes at Georgia Perimeter College (community college) for 11th and 12th grade? I want to get into one of the top 10 colleges Thank you!

Most of this comes down to an issue of money. Courses at Emory are going to be pretty expensive and to my knowledge, the “Top 10 colleges” just don’t accept transfer credit earned in high school. If you do well in Emory courses, it will obviously look better than honors/AP classes or Georgia Perimeter, but it’ll be pretty expensive and you might not see a major return.

You should also consider how competitive you are for “top 10” colleges and what your long-term goals are. If you’re were interested in Emory, the College of Arts and Sciences would accept 24 hours of courses earned at Georgia Perimeter and Oxford College would accept up to 32 of them (a full year).

I think the admissions officers at the top colleges routinely see college courses from high school students.

How much more weight a college course carries compared to an AP course, I don’t know.

Keep in mind that a mediocre college grade might actually hurt your chances for admission.

Emory requires that you submit a complete freshman application by June 15th preceding your senior high school year.

Good luck, if you decide to go for it …
