Dual enrollment credits and upper division standing

If a freshman enters with enough dual enrollment credits to cover the first two years of a degree plan, including all CBKs, can he/she enroll in upper-division courses at the NSC the first semester? Or is upper-division status not given until the second semester under any circumstances?

Probably not. My son took enough of his potential AP credits so that he would be a junior after his first-term freshman year. He was not allowed to sign up for a junior-level history class. He was not officially considered to be a junior until after first-semester grades were released. Now he should be able to add the class he wants during the first week of classes, assuming that there are still openings.

Now your situation is not exactly the same, so your advisor will have to let you know during your NSC.

Good luck to you!

That’s a good question. Since they are a freshman I doubt it. As a transfer student that already has all the CBK classes complete and all the maths as well, they can enroll into upper division classes their first semester after the NSC.

At least for engineering, dual credits and AP classes are nice to lighten the load but they do not satisfy the freshman year Engineering classes like Engineering 111-- required for upper level.

Thanks for the input, everyone!
