Hi All

Sorry if I am in the wrong area. What I need is advice from anyone who is in accountancy field

My dilema is: I have a two year degree with Liberal arts and sciences 2001. AA. SUNY(NY) I want to be a CPA in future.

I have decided to complete my undergraduate/MS in accounting with 150 credits

Since I have taken most of the 'General Education Requirements' courses,

I will not be able to go to college full time(12 credits) as most of the accounting courses and taxation have prerequisites courses

I will have 'time' to fill in another related major, namely finance I checked out : At least 15 credits are common courses to Accountancy and Finance vice versa.

How would it be beneficial careerwise to have dual major? Has anyone taken this approach? Anydrawbacks? Is it doable

I am working in Ireland as a Fincancial controller(3+yrs) and have passed professional accountancy exams ACA.

I want to move to USA(am citizen)?

Would this international experience help me stand out/ get a job?

P.S. Next to accounting I am very much interested in finance

Any serious advice soon would be greatly appreciated.

Honestly, I doubt it would make much of a difference. I don’t think there are too many jobs you can get with a Bachelors in Finance that you can’t get with a Bachelors in Accounting. I don’t think there would be any drawbacks, I just can’t really see how it would benefit you, especially if you’re going to get a M.S. in Accounting.

I’m confused.

Are you looking for a school to complete your degree?

Or are you looking for a job that will pay for you to finish your degree?

Are you asking if it would be hard for you to get your degree in a dual major?

Are you asking if it’s ok to get your degree by going to school part-time?

Are you a resident of any state?

Do you the budget to pay for your education?

I’m sorry for not understanding. :)

sorry for confusion,

What I meant to say was I want to be CPA. I also would like to go to college fulltime(financial aid reason and shorten degree time)

Main reason for double major (apart for the interest in fianance) is that I will have spaces in my schedule due to non completion of accounting prerequistes. I.E I cant take accounting 102 untill I complete accounting 101.

Since I have completed ‘Liberal Arts/General education requirements’ at most in any given semester I will be barely able to take tops 11 credits, So to fill in the GAPS and pursue my interest as well, I decided to double major.

My question remains is it worthwhile to do dual major accounting and finance

I hope I cleared the confusion

Thanks
