I was wondering if it would be possible for me to dual major in aerospace engineering and physics. I know that it would be difficult, but how many extra classes would I have to take and how many years would it take? I want to go to Stanford, University of Maryland College Park, University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, Michigan Ann Arbor, or UC Santa Barbara.
Thanks

It would be quite a few extra classes. I remember looking into it a while ago and it was probably 3 or 4 extra semesters.

I remember reading another post that said there were only 8 extra classes that didn’t overlAp. (at Maryland.)

It depends on the school. At most schools the physics degree is less constrained than engineering and therefore has free electives which can be filled by engineering courses from your Aerospace major. I see a lot of students take this double degree at my school, Illinois Institute of Technology, and it generally takes an extra year but if you start with a significant amount of AP credit, then you can do it in 4 years total.

I’m currently in Aerospace engineering at UMD and considered doing this. After looking into it, it would have taken me at least an additional year, if not a year and a half. I did come in with only 7 AP credits though, which is less than a lot of engineering students.
