As a prospective college student, I was wondering what the overlap of classes looks like for these two majors. The reason why I’m considering these two is mostly for versitility and or the ability to get out of the petroleum industry as it fluctuates with the price of oil (~$45/bbl rn). Any thoughts or previous experience about this or colleges that would offer these two degrees would be appreciated. My eye’s on Colorado school of mines currently. I live in Michigan and am more than willing to leave.
Every school is going to differ in the courses they require and which courses they will allow to count towards both majors. You’ll just have to look at schools you’re interested in.
In general, there should be a fair amount of overlap, making this a reasonable choice for someone who is set on double majoring.
Any thoughts on colleges that’ll offer both degrees or some sort of co-op with another college? There seems to be a limited amount of colleges that offer either degree, let alone both. So far the only one I’ve found is Colorado school of mines.
Petroleum engineering and chemical engineering are interchangeable. Don’t limit your search just to petroleum.
