So after receiving my acceptances and rejections from schools, it has come down to these three Duke, UPenn, and UChicago. I believe I plan to major in something dealing with biology and I might eventually be PreMed. So to anyone out there who has had to make a decision between these schools I would love to receive your reason for picking your current school or any other analysis of the schools.

Choose based on fit. Duke probably has the “best” pre-med placement out of these three schools, but not so great that you should go there over Penn if you love Penn, or Chicago if you love Chicago.

All the bio programs are great, and, at the undergrad level, specific rank of the bio program doesn’t matter too much. You’ll have access to great professors and great research facilities at all of these schools.

Except for the major issue, the “compare and contrast” discussion on Duke, U Chicago, and U Penn has been made over and over again on this forum. Go back and search a few pages on this forum. You will see all that people have posted last couple of weeks on this issue.

Regarding pre-med, my advice to all HS seniors contemplating school choice, I would repeat this: kids change their mind about major. So, choosing a school exclusively based on the intended major could be a mistake. I would say, pick a school that fits you best in terms of your general preference. I don’t think you will do measurably worse or better in any one of these schools for your medical career. So, if you stick to the medical career, not much worse off. However, these schools have sufficiently different general culture, you may be happier in one place over the other. My son and U Chicago happen to be a perfect fit. However, I could easily imagine different kids thriving in Duke or U Penn far better than they would at U Chicago.

good luck.
