Duke receives $23 million donation to improve financial aid

This is a great opportunity to give back to Duke. I have made a commitment to this fund and I urge other alumni to join this effort.

Although Duke has one of the largest endowments among colleges almost half of all students need financial aid. Supporting financial aid is a great way to support Duke.

@sgopal2 I find the endowment vs financial aid issue very interesting. Colleges like Barnard, Pitzer and Claremont McKenna College have small(er) endowments and yet are need blind and full need and don’t expect students to borrow much. Seems more a case of priorities than anything else.

^ The per-capita endowment is what matters most. It’s why Dartmouth could afford to be need blind for internationals (they aren’t anymore) and Cornell couldn’t.
