It works pretty much like how it works everywhere else, you see a job listing either on a bulletin board, through the Chronicle classifieds, on a web listing, through email, or through signs posted and you ask to apply or follow the procedure detailed in the posting.

Common work opportunities include:
-administrative assistants in various offices
-library
-TA
-research lab work

I didn’t use the textbook at all for 51 (it was more of a supplement if you wanted extra reading on class materials), but I took the course with Fullenkamp, and I believe Leachman is teaching it in the Fall…so basically I have no idea.

Unfortunately, you’ll be using the Math 103 textbook for homework so you will need that one.

I recommend checking out half.com and the Amazon.com Marketplace for cheap books. Shelfrelief.com is another option – a relatively new startup run by Duke students.

Should I wait for the class by Fullenkamp, or should I just go with Leachman’s class? I heard that Fullenkamp is better than Leachman, and Leachman is kind of … intimidating. I plan to major in Econ, so I prefer to get the major requirement done asap, but I still want to learn from “better” professor, and do not want my grade to suffer.

Ehh, it’s kind of up to you. Grade-wise, I’m not sure you’ll do any better with Fullenkamp than you would with Leachman. Either way, it’s going to be tough. Since I didn’t have Leachman, I can’t say which one is the “better” professor – but honestly you use so little from 51 for the rest of the core that I’m not sure it really matters. However, I would advise you to take 55 with Nechyba (he’s fantastic), and he only teaches in the Fall.

Let me know if you have more questions about Econ!

Umm IMO Fullenkamp is pretty intimidating too. Although in my class he did throw cigarettes into the crowd for people. And ya, the textbook is not used at all.

How hard is it to get into the a capella groups?
Like if you can carry a tune but dont have an amazing voice can you make it? or do you need to be really exceptional?
