Why do so many Duke supporters seem to have a hatred of Cornell on CC? It seems like in any thread even loosely related, Duke supporters do all they can to shread Cornell with vicious attacks. Is it just to knock off the perceived lowest Ivy so they can raise their school's perceived status?

Why do so many Duke supporters rely on SAT score statistics? A 16 year old taking a test is not indicative of overall intelligence. I can't take tests worth a damn, yet have a borderline genius IQ that is better suited to creativity and philosophy. Is my intelligence reflected in those SAT stats?

I think Cornell should be lauded for looking beyond test scores in selecting the best students for such diverse fields of study at Cornell.

I'm another student who might end up in this situation. I'm on the waiting list at Duke right now, but I'm optimistic about my chances. I've put down my deposit at Cornell.

The factors for me are a little different. I'm not going into engineering, rather into the biological sciences with a focus on genetics. One thing I'm really interested in is undergraduate research, something both universities are known for. However, Cornell is offering me the Rawlings Presidential Scholar Program scholarship where I basically get to do freeform research as an undergrad while being mentored by the researcher/faculty member of my choice. Plus, I get $24k over 4 years.

That being said, I've got long time connections to Duke socially, being a rabid Duke bball fan since childhood and having tons of friends go there. If I do get in, I'm planning to room with my best friend, who is also going to Duke.

If you want liberal, hippy-ish vibes with some heavy drinking and frat partying combined go to Cornell. If you want rich preppy with big college sports and some heavy drinking and frat partying the go to Puke.

Beats me. All the SAT scores indicate is that mommy and daddy were willing to pay a lot of money for personalized SAT tutoring.

There's something to be said about reaching out beyond your comfort zone. I think I've already laid out all of the different benefits of Cornell to you. And if you must, you can still be a Blue Devils fan, just not when Cornell is playing them in lacrosse. Welcome to the Big Red Family!
