My top two choices so far are Georgetown SFS and Duke. I know Georgetown SFS is just world-class when it comes to international relations - top of the field, best connections, all the praise etc. etc. But I feel better about going to college at Duke. I feel better about the campus, community, and overall environment there, and I feel as if I’d have a better experience at Duke. Duke is by no means bad when it comes to PoliSci/International Relations, and they’re giving me more financial aid.
My D had the same question with Duke and Middlebury. I will tell you the same thing I told her that your parents might have told you: Trust your gut because every time you eat what you want you feel so much better. You are a smart kid but sometimes you might just need to shut off and listen to your heart. Good luck.
Duke PubPol and PoliSci are fabulous in terms of connections. The career support is astounding. If you have questions, go ahead and reach out to the director of undergraduate studies PoliSci at both Duke and Georgetown. Tell them what your goals are and see what they have to say.
Additionally, college is about the experience. If you think you’ll be happier at Duke, then go to Duke. In addition to Duke giving you more FinAid, I think it’s a solid choice.
Life in Durham is also much cheaper than life in D.C.
Note: I am deeply biased. If you have anymore Duke related questions, feel free to d.m. me!
Don’t discount gut feel as part of the process. If you feel better about Duke and Duke is less expensive then go to Duke. My best piece of advice is that once you make a decision, never look back!
