Can a recruited athlete apply RD but in the EA/SCEA time frame so the coach has everything so that there isn't a problem?</p>
<p>How does an athlete apply early to many schools ...it seems the only way is all EA but not all offer that..</p>

<p>Our S applied RD to all of his top schools and switched his app to ED after he received a LL from his #1 school. The whole process went right down to the ED/EA deadline and he wanted all options open until he had the LL in hand. We never asked the coaches’ permission to do this - he just did i. Come to think of it, we actually got the idea to do it FROM a coach!</p>

<p>Did your student do the testing spring jr yr and then get apps and essays together late summer?</p>
<p>He had all testing done by Spring Jr. Year but took SAT1s again in Fall Sr. year - when all sections came back over 700 multiple schools offered LLs.</p>

and the AdCom determines admit based on test scores/academic profile etc…right?
So this spring/summer as our student continues talking with schools etc and narrowing down where to apply,
and assuming his name will be on that list,
and as long as he applies RD and the coach is supporting the app
…he will hopefully get the likely…

<p>You know, I didn’t really get the impression that there was a list that goes to AdCom. It all felt much more individual than that and in any case a coach’s list will change as circumstances change. In our experience, the coaches all got Pre-reads for our S from Admissions at different times. Some in summer, some in fall. Once the pre-read was over and the nod given from admissions, it was really a matter of whether or not the coaches would use up a LL. </p>
<p>Spring student should keep on emailing updates to coaches.
After July 1, coaches with real interest will demonstrate it by offering official visits.
Some coaches won’t offer visits right away, so S kept a slot open for a schools he HOPED would offer him a visit and eventually they did.
Early fall - official visits. After each visit, take the coach’s temperature vis a vis the possibility of a likely. Prepare all apps.
October Send in apps RD.
by November 1 (EA/ED deadline) have likely in hand.
Turn RD app to ED/EA if available at #1 school.</p>
<p>You will need to promise the coach that if he gets a likely, he will change RD to ED/EA. They are unlikely, um, to issue a likely without that assurance.</p>
<p>Our experience was much like that of 3Xboys. Rather than there being a “list,” it seemed like the coach communicated with admissions about each athlete individually - at several schools our athlete also worked with staff members called athletic liasons who facilitated the work between the coaches and admissions. I think the idea of a “list” underestimates the fluidity of the process. Decisions are being made about different athletes at different points throughout the admissions process.</p>

<p>Thank you all. After reading so much conflicting information, it seems to not be nearly as cumbersome as one parent I know made it out to be…but our student is pretty low key and we want him to be leading this --not us. ;o)</p>
<p>This is most helpful as our student is entering winter training …he has high hopes for his spring season…</p>
<p>Last spring he toured a few schools to see what type of school he likes–size/locale etc
He opened his initial ncaa profile
Mid fall he sent some coaches an inital letter of introduction
He has gotten email from several coaches over the last few months and he introduced himself at one event…but nothing else because of ncaa guidelines
Last week he completed online forms at all the schools, and has heard from a few new coaches.</p>
