I was also deferred from SCU. Ugh, I'm really disappointed. I wanted to go to USD so bad. I can always hope to get in by transferring.

Appealing is basically telling admissions that you think it was wrong of them to reject you. Usually they'll take a second, closer look @ your application and maybe accept more letters of recommendation.

The reason I'm suggesting this is because I had a friend who was rejected from Berkeley a couple years ago and she appealed and got in. Who knows, it's worth a shot!

It wasn't wrong for them to reject me, based on my stats, but if I'm dying to go there is it worth trying to appeal or would they just look at me and laugh?

Hmm, I don't think I'll waste my time appealing for USD. I care more for SCU, so I hope they will take a closer consideration since my first semester senior grades are pretty good. My goal is to get into a good UC school though. I still want to know why USD rejected me though....

Yea, I dunno DB, it would be a waste of your time and theirs to appeal a decision based solely on merit. People usually appeal only if they are sure there was a mistake or something huge on their application or something.

What I think you should ask is if you could be placed into Regular Decision. That would give you more time and then they could look at your application again.

Im deffered from SCU and USD!!! Woohoo!!!

Wow, seems like most of us who applied for USD applied for SCU as well?

still nothing.. i really don't expect to get in since my stats are way below all of yours who have been deferred/rejected. 3.4gpa 1710 sat and 25 act but really good ecs.

^ why do u say that jdlex. You made me nervous now. I havent got mine yet either so now I am thinking they send all the rejection letters at once. Thanks :(

well i just looked at the previous posts and some people who were rejected and deferred had amazing stats (wayyy better than mine). i don't think there's any order to when they send the letters though.. but don't take my word for it. anyone know?

I'm pretty sure they send them out at all different times. I would've thought you would have gotten something by now. I'm so upset I didn't get in, looks like I'll most likely be going to CU-Boulder.

We just got a letter from USD addressed to "the parents of". "Delighted that your daughter has applied", etc. The letter is telling us that they have begun reviewing the regular decision people and the decision letters will go out in no particular order, just as they review them. The timing of the letters means nothing. In other words, the "best" do not get theirs earlier. It says that EA applicant decisions are prior to January 31, and RA applicants are sent in mid-March. All letters do not go out at once, just as they go. Very interesting information and we were happy to get the letter. If your friend gets an early letter, it does not mean that you will not get one, too! Nice touch, USD.

Naw, i applied early and still havent got my letter yet. I called and they said I would get it within the next week. Thats why i am worried

dbsilverman24:
Boulder is cool man. I went there. Just don't live in the College Inn. Live in an on-campus dorm, or it will hinder your studies and campus involvement..... And there is a big ass hill you have to walk up to get to class.

JtotheEW, the letter says that EA decisions would be mailed by the 31st. I guess that if that is true, your letter will come anytime within the next week.
One good thing is that even if you are the very last person to receive it, you may very well be accepted. There is no specific order, so good luck, and I hope you get good news!

USD is getting tougher and tougher to get into...there must have been a ton of EA apps. Some of you have some solid stats that would easily get you in at most schools in this country...

Yea, and I'm surprised that I was deferred because my scores are much lower than kids that were flat out rejected.
Kids that were deferred, are you going to send any "additional" information like the letter said you could?

My sister's friend received her acceptance this past week to USD. She is one of the top graduating seniors with solid scores, many leadership activities, and varied involvements. She was offered a Trustee scholarship and an application for the Honors program. She was stoked. Oh, by the way, the envelope was a plain, BIG white one with nothing written on the outside other than the USD return address in the left hand corner.

rejected ea.. not too dissapointed though as it was not one of my top picks at all. i'm pretty sure i would've picked my state school over usd because it is so much cheaper.

Update.. i got in today. ACT=29 GPA=3.8 good essay and good ECs. not much community service tho, less than 30 hours
