EA at Harvard or Wharton?

Now, before you say "WHAT?" Listen to my reasoning.
I am a international student from Canada. My career is in the business world - making Wharton a better choice. But does everyone agree Wharton at Upenn is not very famous internationally? Especially compared to Harvard. Back on the other hand, EA to Wharton is a much better chance than EA to Harvard. (30% vs 20%) I am international too.

What do you think?

Which one is better Early Action?

It depends if you want to say in the US after schooling.
If you decide to stay there, yes, buisness people will seek you from left to right. Isn't the wharton school the most prestigious buisness school in the u.s? Companies will be flocking to the school, pleading for you to join them lol

Internationally, yeah wharton isn't a household name, and harvard is. But busness people (outside the u.s) and major companies seeking for new employees MUST know of wharton and it's prestige and quality, as they live in the buisness world. It's probably basic knowledge to them.

If you decide to leave the u.s after your education, go with harvard. (to be on the SAFE side). But attending wharton school will still give you benefits overseas..

If staying in the u.s, go with wharton. Why? It's easier to get in than harvard (still hard though. i dont think the 30% applies to intels. probably less than 15% Harvard is probably less than 10%), very prestigious buisness school, major companies recruit future employees from there alot, the quality of education is near perfect.

NoFX: that last sentence makes me wonder if you actually went to wharton.

for me, i would love to go to wharton for the same reasons as the OP. but then again, i would also love to go to harvard. both have their benefits, and i'll be REALLY torn if both accept me. If, however, since getting into harvard would be pretty much a miracle

oh and, some of the most qualitifed applicants in my school in canada aren't even applying down south. I hope you are not looking for pure prestige, because prestige alone won't get you too far in your career.

btw for me, i'll most likely stay in the US if i get into one of my top schools, but if not, then i'll probably go to a canadian uni, probably Mcgill/queens/or UT

I though Wharton only has ED not EA

Yeah, ED or EA, which is binding again lol?

Great points NOf and Ivy.

How good of a education is Wharton compared to Canada's Queen's or Toronto or Ivey from University of Western?

I agree about the international working experience.

So the question comes down to, which one is the better decision in GAINING ADMISSION - Harvard or Wharton?

Almost everyone that i've met who is not applying to the states claim that the education is the same, and i pretty much agree in terms of pure textbook learning. they probably use the same ones. But the difference is in the social context, and what it really comes down to is: do you want to live in the states for 4 years? Cause if you get a degree from queens or other top canadian uni's, you will be as prepared to work in your field as a wharton grad. Canadian uni's definately DON'T give you a subpar education.

Harvard is definately harder to get in, no, ALOT harder, so unless you have some amazing accomplishments, I would bank more on wharton. I'm serious, too.

True, I was thinking MIT has a good Sloan program for undergrads.
You think that's a good choice?

btw...
EA=early action -> non-binding
ED=early decision -> binding :)
SCEA/EASC = single choice early action -> still binding ;)

SCEA is not binding ...

lol sorry poisonivy. i was just merely guessing it's 'greatness' due to all the wharton-hype.
But I'm pretty confident it stands near accuracy.. well atleast i hope it is lol

and yeah scea is not binding..

heh i hope its true too. wharton is definately one of my top choices, if not my top.

i spent so much time on that why penn essay that i've gotten the whole essay memorized word for word by heart. No, i'm not joking. When i realized i could recite it, i knew it was a sign for me to stop with the editings and send it in ;)

if you take a look at this year's ED/EA stats, Penn had a very significant increase (21%) in no. of applicants and whereas Harvard actually had a decrease. my point is, Penn is rapidly gettin more attention from applicants, and this will only make it more competitive. i'm sure the acceptance rate is going to go really down this year... and wharton is the most competitive among all penn schools!

wouldn't say wharton is easier to get into than harvard. but if u apply early, u've a better chance at wharton.

no. wharton is easier to get into than harvard.

Nevertheless, what did you talk about generally in the essay and how formal is the tone? Do you many "I"s?

Do you like it being edited many times?

come on dude, aren't you in grade 11? chill out jeez. i didn't start any of my essays until last month.

poisonivy or ivypoison, true dedication. I really hope you get in!
