Dear mchs12 : Boston College’s financial aid uses two formulas. The first is the government provided FAFSA caculation. The second is the Boston College calculation that includes other financial components such as the vested value your family has in their home. As a general rule, if you have $150,000 in total family annual income, $100,000 in cash savings, and equity in your home, you will generally find that there is no financial aid to be had. Now, these numbers can skew slightly, however you get the general picture being painted.

so any chance at the pres scholarship than?

Not be a downer because I think you have a fantastic shot of getting in and and a better shot than most at Honors, but I really wouldn’t count on the pres scholarship. The people they give pres scholarships to are people that are pretty much HYP-bound, and BC tries to snag them with not only Honors status, but also free tuition and other perks. I have an old friend who got a pres scholarship this year. 2400 SAT, valedictorian at arguably the most prestigious high school in New York City, nationally ranked debater, etc. He’s going to Harvard. I would still go ahead and apply as to not regret it later, but I would not worry about getting the pres scholarship.

I agree with bronovan. The girl who got the presidential scholarship from my school is also going to Harvard and salutatorian of the class. I wouldn’t apply banking on the merit aid. I think only 15 people get it anyway, so out of 30,000 applicants, chances are pretty meager.

so ive gotten all my test results lately and i would like your input.
I kinda F’ed up on the sat iis, so i would like to knwo if you think i should send, retake, or just not send, also if i send them will my ap results make up for them?

Sat: Math lvl 2: 690 US hist: 730
APs: Calc AB: 5 USH: 5

Those APs are great, although I’ve read that the scores aren’t taken into account for admissions for whatever reason. You’re obviously good at Calc, so maybe Math2 was a bit too hard? I didn’t go near math for APs or SAT2s, so I’m not sure how they compare to one another and I wouldn’t know if suggesting you take Math1 instead is a good idea. I wouldn’t worry about the history scores though, good work.

mathlvl2 has more precalc (which i skipped) and math lvl1 has more geometry (which i took freshman year and to be honest did not have that great of a teacher) therefore i thought it would be better to take math lvl 2, especially since there was a higher curve…but i guess it didnt help me that much
