[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[li]
Extracurriculars/B: Math Team (captain), another regional math team, academic team, gymnastics, concert band (section leader), jazz band (section leader)[/li][li] Job/Work Experience: clarinet tutor, worked at Chinese restaurant 2 summers[/li][li] Volunteer/Community service: freshman year, traveled to NYC and volunteered for an entire week; around 30 hours sprinkled throughout soph & junior years[/li][li]
Summer Activities: **worked in restaurant, had internship at a nonprofit math magazine last summer, traveled some, studied (sigh), etc. [/li][li] Essays: used my common app essay for the background one (teachers told me it was good, i worked for a looooooong time perfecting it)[/li]EC essay was a bit long, but had a good message about my years in gymnastics
my why the college essay was very determined-sounding and ambitious. i basically said all that’s missing from georgetown is me. quite cute
[li] Teacher Recommendation: i had 3 teacher recs (assuming all 8/10 or above) and [/li][li] Counselor Rec: my counselor rec was a rehash of my ECs but she said i was “one of the most amazing students” she has ever met[/li][li]
Additional Rec: n/a[/li][li]
Interview: **connected with my interviewer (he was a lawyer) and he seemed pleased with our convo. it was mostly informational and he got me really excited about GU actually!
[/li]

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): Massachusetts
[] School Type: good public (around 800 kids) sends a couple kids to top-tier schools each year
[] Ethnicity: Asian (Chinese) <–antihook!
[] Gender: F
[] Income Bracket: less than 30,000 (but we have a lot of assets)
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): first generation college in the US? i’m a permanent resident too, but i don’t think that affects anything

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: essay content and style, i think i matched georgetown’s preferred student profile of high test scores and high rank. i think my english teacher wrote me a really excellent rec letter as well. my personality and aspirations definitely shined through my app
[] Weaknesses: difficult demographic (female asian from MA…seriously, how many thousands of those are out there?), my only liberal arts SAT2 was kind of low (700), and i wrote my essays the night they were due
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: for reasons mentioned above
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: i’ve been accepted to Babson (52k a year) and fordham already. waiting on UChicago mostly.

[/ul]General Comments:
really happy about this! couldn’t be more excited to be a Hoya (if UChicago doesn’t work out). the most important part of holistic admissions is to show what kind of person you are. don’t be worried that you have to be this EC-superhero or have won Intel science fair or whatever to gain entrance into a school like georgetown. be YOU (with good grades and test scores) and YOU might surprise yourself

good luck to everyone in their future endeavors!

Applied: SFS

Decision: Deferred

Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): 740 Math, 730 CR
ACT: N/A
SAT II: 800 USH, Math 2 and Lit: Pending
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): No 4.0 scale at my school, but 95 average
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top 10%
AP (place score in parenthesis): AP US (5), only sciences were offered for Juniors besides US, which was incredibly annoying
IB (place score in parenthesis): Not offered
Senior Year Course Load: AP Art History, AP Psych, AP World History, “AP” World Religions (mandatory class for students with scholarships, college level), English 4 Honors, Calculus Honors
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Honor Roll, Academic/Activity Awards in school, National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar

Subjective:

Teacher Recommendations: One of them was fantastic. Written by my AP US teacher and the VP of academics and his last letter before retirement. He was an extremely intelligent man and taught for close to 50 years before he retired at the end of last year. The other was solid, but not extraordinary.
Counselor Recommendation: Did not read, but we have a very good relationship so I’d assume positive
Interview: Went fantastic! I got along with the interviewer very well and she thought I’d be a perfect fit for the school.

Other
Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes

School Type: Parochial
Ethnicity: Mixed (Hispanic/European)
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: 60-80k
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Started my own political forecast website for election predictions, URM

Reflection
Strengths: Scores, Recommendations, Website, Hispanic
Weaknesses: Grades (Or at least not being on a 4.0 scale), lack of AP/IB opportunities
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Well, another 20-30 points on my SATs could have probably helped. Quite frankly, my school doesn’t exactly have a success record with getting their students into top schools. Year after year there are a significant chunk of students with scores in the 2100-2300 range but no major acceptances, baring a few exceptions. Clearly something needs to be changed in the guidance department (my counselor seemed to be on the ball, however)

General Comments: Gonna wait till April and see how it turns out

I was honestly expecting a deferral since I saw that people with much higher scores were being deferred. My letter didn’t come until yesterday afternoon (12/17), but I called the office of admissions earlier in the morning and they told me I was accepted. I guess it just goes to show that test scores aren’t everything.

Accepted SFS

International Student from the Caribbean (Got my email Sunday morning at 6 am.)

SAT: 1300/1600 (670-Critical Reading 630-Math)

I applied (well i’m going to send it in) for financial aid.

To any international out there who feels discouraged with the whole application process, don’t give up !! I tried last year and it didn’t work out for me (hence my gap year.) But I didn’t give up. I’ve started all over and now I already have an acceptance, thanks be to God !! Hard work eventually pays off guys :)

Decision: Accepted (NHS, International Health)

ACT: 35
GPA: 4.65/4
SAT IIs: 790, 800, 770
AP.: 7 AP Scores of 5
National Merit Semifinalist

While I was ecstatic to have been selected, my parents reminded me that I won’t be able to attend this school unless a miracle happens with financial aid. I know we’re supposed to treat colleges like products–you buy the brands you can afford–but I’m absolutely devastated that I won’t be able to attend such a phenomenal program without taking on massive amounts of debt.

Kristi, that was the deal we had with our ds, who was accepted EA. The FA worked out for us. I hope it does for you, too.

Also I wrote a TON on the app (well over the suggested word count). I attached a nice selfie as well so that probably helped. Also, submitted my resume.
[] Weaknesses: My Spanish SAT II score but my 5 on the AP test and enrollment at the local community college probably offset that.

General Comments: Please give me feedback as to why you think I was deferred… I was crushed when I got my letter

@esc777
Did you take SAT subjects? I believe Georgetown wants to see 2-3 subject SAT’s. Also, did you take any AP’s before your senior year? If yes, what are your test scores? If not, they might want to see how you do on your AP classes before they make their decision. Overall I think that your app is very strong and you have good chances to get in during RD. Just keep your grades up. Good luck!
