Does Villanova provide any merit $? We have gotten money from most schools but have seen nothing yet for Nova.
The merit scholarships I know of are the Presidential Scholarship (Full Ride) and the St. Augustine Scholarship ($15,000/yr) but the winners of those scholarships have already been announced for Early Action (I think). There are some other scholarships you can find on their website that have some requirements outside of pure merit but I suspect those have been announced as well.
How do people afford Villanova? We have about 100K to give our daughter but that would leave her with 186K is debt. That is crazy, isn’t it??
Villanova provides very little in “merit money”. Same with Holy Cross, Boston College, ND, and Georgetown in the Catholic college cohort. The NY Times did an analysis of family income of students in US colleges and universities. 15% of the Villanova students come from the top 1 % (which the NYT defines as family income of more than $630k). Another large group of students come from families with income between $250k and $630k). These are the “full pay” students who make up close to 1/2 of the student body at Villanova. The same family income dynamic is true in the families with students at the other top tier Catholic schools along with peers such as Lehigh, Bucknell, Richmond, Wake Forest, etc. These schools are able to attract top students without the need for merit money/tuition discounts. All of these schools have decided to allocate financial aid only to those with demonstrated need. Good for the schools but difficult for families at the lower end of the “full pay” income bracket.
Yep
For those in that certain range the payout is BRUTAL…
There needs to be a little more relief as it’s far too much of ones total resources…
Still don’t get the purpose of the CSS as it looks deeper to dig deeper but not to alleviate and look to meet un-met need.
Like the FAFSA is some rigid immutable baseline
