I know $1 million seems like a lot of money, but it does not translate to what people think. Generally speaking, a school can draw about 5% per year from an endowed fund … so it adds maybe $50,000 per year to the school’s scholarship fund. As I say when our development office gets excited about a big check, “Every little bit helps - but keep working to get more, because that big check isn’t as big as it seems.”
