Earliest time to apply for scholarships

When is the earliest time a high school student can apply for scholarships that will account for their college years?

The best scholarships come from the colleges themselves…so you would be applying for those during the fall term of your senior year in high school. You need to check EACH college for application deadlines. Some of the best scholarships require an admissions and scholarship application be completed before a certain date. You need to know and adhere to those dates.

Usually outside scholarships are also applied for during your senior year. Again…make sure you don’t miss the deadlines.

There are a small number of scholarships awarded during the junior year, but these are not common.

Start search in Summer. You should be able to find those scholarship index books at the library. Most of the big ones start the application in Fall as the expect a lot of applications to go through. Some smaller and local ones usually have later deadline and the forms may not be available until later.
