C of C admissions posted on their Instagram yesterday that early acceptance letters are out. Has anyone received their letter yet?
Nothing in the mail today
Nothing here today for us either.
Nothing here.
Same here, nothing in the mail today.
@carolinamom2boys My D received her package today and unfortunately there was no scholarship weekend invite. It was just confirmation and welcome into the Honors College. She did receive 12K/year with the acceptance, so I guess that’s good for OOS, but we are disappointed that with her score/GPA/high number of volunteer hours and her excellent essays that she did not revive an invite.
@elcs76 they typically only.invite the top 1% of applicants . Last year they had over 1500 applicants. At that level, everyone has great scores, GPAs, volunteer hours and ECs. Several have been published or done research. It is extremely competitive and has become moreso each year. I’ve enclosed info regarding last year’s William Aiken Fellows. This will give you an idea of what last year’s candidates stats we’re. Avg ACT 32, SAT 1480, GPA 4.387 They only accepted 29 candidates into the WAF.
Oh ok - I understand more now. ? She’s a very good student and has high stats for CoC, but it sounds like they weren’t high enough. She just got accepted to Tulane, so she is over the moon, but was really hoping for this scholarship weekend to open up some other avenues and to meet other honors students that weekend. Nonetheless, we are happy that she received some merit at CoC.
@elcs76 the stats for the Honors College are high. Congrats on getting an acceptance. My DS19 had all the other requirements and stats but test scores. He didn’t even apply to Honors. I can’t say enough good things about the caliber of students in the Honors College. Some have already been published and have done research. They’re are a quite impressive bunch. Sounds like your daughter has some great options. One of the William Aiken Fellows in my older son’s class , @Chopinspiano also had Tulane on her list. She’s very friendly. You may want to reach out to her if your daughter has specific questions.
Thank you so much for the congrats and for your help. I really appreciate it! She does have some great options and I am happy to be close to the finish line. I may reach out to @Chopinspiano soon!
Its sad that test scores count so much these days. Being a college professor myself, I experience how meaningless they are in predicting student performance past the first or second semester, at least in engineering. But it is very convenient for colleges to report those numbers in their admissions stats and to show that every year the students they admit get better and better (makes for a good story and makes the politicians and rankings creators happy).
Good luck to everyone. DD didn’t get anything in the mail today from CoC, We are still waiting, but unfortunately, her interest in the CoC is decreasing with the other schools that accepted her weeks ago.
@FromColatown CofC does not have rolling admissions. Their website said EA would be notified in January, it’s December. Schools release acceptances at different times. To become frustrated or compare schools based on notifications is not entirely fair. Not exactly sure how stats make politicians happy.
Well, our politicians more and more tie school funding to stats, such as tests that measure student “quality” and graduation rates. The better the stats look, the more money flows in general.
And the CoC Social Media stated before the holidays that the letters have been sent. We are just anxious to get word. But knowing how random mail delivery is here, who knows if we ever get the letter.
Nothing today either.
Nothing here either.
Nothing here either.
Nothing here either.
Still nothing…
I think it is safe to say at this point that despite the Facebook post most of us will not here anything until Mid-January.
Nothing here in MA either… hoping tomorrow…
