Early college planning

Thank you. Here comes senior year!

I saw in your other thread, that you are interested in a dance minor. Just an FYI, Clark does not offer dance. Brown had student-run dance groups but no formal dance curriculum as far as I can tell.

Have you taken either the SAT or ACT yet? Scores?

How far are you willing to travel? Any restrictions on geographical area?

Wesleyan and Vassar both have good eclectic dance programs. You might also take a look at Muhlenberg, not too far away, strong for both musical theater (with robust dance offerings) and STEM. Mount Holyoke offers good merit scholarships and you get the Five Colleges Consortium with decent dance offerings across it.

However, without info on test scores, eligibility for need-based aid and/or budget from your parents, it’s really hard to make suggestions that would be suitable for you. Help us out so we can help you out.

Franklin and Marshall meets need and has a good dance program. Also, if Conn hasn’t totally been crossed off the list, it’s one of their strengths.

What about a good orchestra? I play the upright bass

Oberlin and University of Rochester both have great conservatories

^But for a non-music major, playing in then isn’t really an option.

Wesleyan has strong performing arts in general and I think they’ve got a strong orchestra for non-music majors.

St. Olaf’s also definitely good for that. A fairly apolitical school, not so activist-y.

Brandeis and Wellesley have a combined orchestra which I believe is very good. Brandeis doesn’t have such great financial aid, though Wellesley does.

You guys have been immensely helpful, thank you

I would say that Brown and Wellesley are unrealistic reaches with a 3.75 GPA.

According to Wellesley admissions data from last 5+ years, ~3.78-3.81 was the unweighted GPA avg., and weighted was ~4.10-4.22; Brown was a little higher at ~3.82-3.85 and ~4.20-4.32.

In response to the above poster" A 3.75 is probably good enough if the test scores are high and the original poster is an URM, and she has strong ECs/talents, imo

Ok I’m planning on applying to Wellesley ED. I posted about it in the Wellesley thread. Advice appreciated.
