Early decision applicants discussion thread

@extremus Yeah, same about my midyear report - he didn’t know that we WERE supposed be sending our 1st quarter grades because they didn’t really specify, but he sent it about 3 days after the ED deadline when I realized the college preferred it. Oops;;;; Anyways, he sent an email to Amherst apologizing about it as well as the reports themselves and it’ snow on my AC data as “First Marking Grades” I think. As long as you and your counselor alert them that you did send your grades and everything, you should probably be fine.

Hi guys! I got in through QB this year so hopefully some you guys will join me soon

@lesleymmm Aw that’s so cool that the rest of your senior year will be less stressful now. I don’t really understand how QB works though. What do you plan to study?

Congratulations @lesleymmm !

Congrats @lesleymmm ! Same confusion about questbridge but its amazing that you got in so early - I’m jealous haha.

There is a QB forum here that explains a lot: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/questbridge-programs/

Also their web site, of course: http://www.questbridge.org/for-students/ncm-national-college-match

@OHMomof2 I’m an international student, so doubt I’ll really qualify haha. But thanks for the info!

@NZ2020 I’m planning to study political science or environmental studies while trying to do my requirements for med school and thanks everybody! You apply to QB in the beginning of senior year and if you’re a finalist, you participate in NCM which is like doing ED, but to more than when. You rank schools by the ones you wanted to attend more. The one highest on your list that accepts you back is where you will go with a full ride. So if you know some low income juniors, you guys should tell about it!

@lesleymmm That’s so cool - exactly what I want to do! Except pre-med may not be feasible since I’m an international and there isn’t much aid for med school. Hopefully I’ll be joining you and everyone else in this thread next autumn.

I know!! Med school is expensive as heck! Feel free to send me a PM if you guys get accepted

does anyone know when will the exact time and date of our decisions be announced?

11th December 6PM EST

I applied ED as well and EA to Chicago. International but US citizen. Don’t really care how that will affect my application though. No hooks, not recruited, not legacy, but rather strong stats (though not that great in the context of where I am from [no 1900 SATs here]) Additionally I am from an overrepresented school, not in terms of Amherst students but sending students to top schools. Also I don’t have any big name ECs like interning at IMF, just a lot of commitment and academic rigour. What did you guys choose for supplements?

hey @antogyr, how did you come to know about the date? Has amherst announced it in a blogpost or an email or something?
And ya, I chose the supplement which was something like this - ''difficulty need not foreshadow despair or defeat … … ‘’.

@antogyr I sent in a graded essay which was probably a risky move. My GPA dipped in junior year so I wanted to use option B to show them I’m not a complete idiot. :))

@antogyr I’m also wondering where you got that date. Going from past threads, I thought it was going to be around 5:00 on the 15th.

@antogyr Mine was about stereotypes  And same about the dates, I thought it was going to be on the 15th like @fickletoaster70 mentioned…Maybe they have different dates for different places? Is Amherst one of the colleges that tells people whether they’re accepted or not at once?

has @antogyr disappeared?

Apparently so.

I called the admissions office to ask today, and their incredibly helpful answer was “this month.” Sigh.

Yo so low key decisions are on Friday. Just got an email as I’m sure most of you did as well. So yah…

“Please note that the Amherst College Office of Admission will be posting decisions for Early Decision applicants through individual ACData portals late in the day on Friday, December 11.” ~O)
