Early Decision Applicants: October ACT score issues?

To all Northeastern ED applicants who took the ACT on October 24th: Are you having issues with your score reports? I was told at my NU visits and by admissions counselors that I would be able to test in October and still send my scores to be considered for ED. But now, after the test date and after the application deadline, Northeastern released this notice:

“We are aware that ACT and SAT scores are currently being delayed. Please note that we require official score reports from the testing agency—however, we will add scores to your file as late as we can—scores must be received by November 20 for Early Decision. Students should make sure that they have already requested a score report from SAT or ACT to be sent to Northeastern as soon as scores are released.”

As I mentioned above, I was told differently multiple times. My ACT score report wasn’t even published until November 23rd, although I indicated that my scores were to be sent upon registration. I feel like it’s not entirely fair to be informed of this November 20th deadline this late in the process. Are there any other applicants out there going through the same thing? Can anyone offer some insight as to how this affects the admissions process?

Your best bet is to contact admissions.

@admit2020, nanotechnology is right. Contact admissions. In general, an application deadline means the deadline for any university to have received all of the materials required to evaluate you. Anything considered outside of that is a bonus. For both EA and ED, the application deadline was 11/1. The additional details provided under EA on the website have always said that scores would be considered up until 12/1 but the ED section does not say that and never did. I would assume because the posted notification by date for ED is 12/15 vs. EA which is 12/31.

That doesn’t mean you were not told something that was incorrect in the info sessions so sure, ask admissions about it. I’d try hard to avoid words like “unfair.” It may be a misunderstanding but it is certainly not unfair. If your scores improved and will not be considered by Northeastern, they should help any RD applications you have in the hopper if it comes down to that so it wasn’t a wasted effort. The only way for it to be a waste is if Northeastern doesn’t consider them and you get in anyway. Now wouldn’t that be a nice problem to have?

Though I don’t believe in the value of “chancing by strangers” you have posted your stats a number of times as well as ECs and the fact that you are a legacy. For what it’s worth, you are already an excellent candidate whether they take your new scores or not. I don’t think that Northeastern is going to need another crack at those darn tests to know what they need to know about you. I could not have bribed my own kids to take those tests more than twice never mind four or five times. Assuming your recs and essays are good, your application will show you are a go-getter and I’ll be shocked if you are not doing the happy dance a few days from now no matter what scores they look at. All the best!

i have the same problem and contacted admissions and my local rep and got the response that they cannot assure me they will definitely use them, idk. but I emailed them again today because my status checker wasn’t updating about whether it got my october scores but they aid they have them and won’t say if they will consider them. as for dates they were processed on the 23rd i believe but i ordered them to be sent they day i got the multiple choice scores, so hopefully they will understand that the test agency delay was the case of it being late and not me.
