<p>I haven’t gotten an email yet! Should I call Reed?</p>
<p>Check your spam folder first, then call if you don’t find it</p>
<p>@anambiar Have you heard yet?</p>
<p>Did any international student that needs financial aid get in during this round? I and my counselor went over my Reed application and honestly we could’t understand why. It doesn’t make sense :(</p>
<p>You guys are about to start a crazy journey. It is very weird for me as a senior to think back on my days as a pre-freshman and during the first few months of school.</p>
<p>I was accepted but still haven’t gotten an email or financial aid estimate… where can I find it?</p>
<p>Evelynne: Reed has a limited aid budget for internationals. Just keep the college updated with your interest and other qualifications. </p>
<p>Financial aid stuff is under bannerweb. </p>
<p>@International95 When should we expect to get PIN numbers to get into bannerweb?</p>
<p>@cn7528 No. Nothing yet. I sent them an email yesterday but didn’t get a response. I’ll call them today(18th).</p>
Can everyone post their stats? Thanks! I’m a prospective Reedie here.

Thank You! @herbiehancock
@evelynne1996: Hey there, this is Aiman. I am an international student from Bangladesh, SE Asia, and I got in with a pretty good financial aid package. I think my strong points were ECAs and the “Why Reed” essay. But severe disadvantage, I finished highschool in 2012, so I have had a long gap. But backed it up with enough ECAs so I guess wasn’t all that bad. Don’t worry, there are plenty of colleges out there looking for someone just like you. Take care!
@ilikeacting Here are my stats:
GPA:
3.6 (unweighted), 4.1 (weighted)
This is semi-low/average for Reed.
SAT:
1830 (620 reading, 630 math, 580 writing)
This is considerably low for Reed. I believe this was the weakest aspect of my application.
APs: 8 total
Soph.: World History, Human Geography
*Jun/Sen: United States History, English III, English IV, Physics C Mechanics, MacroEco., United States Gov’t.
*I’m on a three year plan to graduate from high school a year early, so I am currently taking all of my junior and senior courses simultaneously.
Extracurriculars:
Interact Club (volunteer group) – 3 years
Astronomy Club – 2 years, 1 year as board member
National Honor Society – 2 years
*Global Nomads – 2 years
*TAV course – 1 year
*These are optional projects I participate(d) in at school with other students. In Global Nomads I had video conferences with students at all-girls schools in Jordan and Oman to create international community service projects. TAV stands for Texas After Violence and is a project that takes an objective look at the ethics of capital punishment (the death penalty) in Texas. I did receive school credit for these.
Other perks I mentioned on my app:
- spent two summers studying math and science at a local college and a university, but dropped out for…
- three week internship on organic ranch in south central Kentucky (completed school course work over internship upon returning, received school credit, and got a letter of rec from the man who owns the farm)
- early HS grad = extremely challenging course load – Reed likes this
- roughly 120 volunteer hours*
*Most of these hours come from projects that I’ve participated in. I keep a school blog where I discuss all of them, and added links to my blog for each project’s post that I listed on my resume so that Reed could read about them. I’d recommend sending a resume.
I applied for ROME (if you’re of minority background, make sure you apply – this is very, very, very important) but was rejected. I emailed them asking what I could do to improve my application immediately, and got a lot of really helpful criticism. They seemed excited that I asked.
I did request financial aid, which can potentially hurt your chances. That being said, I’m female, Hispanic, and a soon-to-be math-physics major, so I think that may have made them feel better about giving me money. Applying first round early decision also helped me, but you should NEVER do this unless you’re beyond 100% confident that this is your first choice, no matter what other offers you get.
I never visited, but I interviewed and I felt like it went really well. Interviews aren’t required (it was for me because I’m graduating early), but I’d request one if I were you. Reed claims to value them (and visits – I couldn’t afford it) a lot.
I kept in close contact with multiple staff. Mostly to make an impression, but also because I had a lot of questions. The week before decisions came out I sent the board of admissions an email reiterating how much I wanted to go. I’d recommend calling or writing a letter doing them same. You don’t want to sound desperate, but you want to make sure that you get the point across: you’re determined (or at least I was – Reed was my first choice, and the only place I applied).
At times I was confident that I wouldn’t get in. I got rejected for ROME, all of my grades and scores were low, and I’d been told by Reed that they are extra critical of early grads. My sappy, last minute, “I love you, please accept me,” email probably wasn’t very professional in hindsight, but in the end, I’m still going to Reed.
Best of luck to you! If you have any questions at all, I’d be more than happy to discuss them with you.
@ilikeacting Good luck!

Haha, tell me about it. I seemed to have developed a bit of a headache over it. Not to worry though, I called the admission office and no one picked up so, after looking at older threads, it seems safe to say we will not be getting any kind of email until tomorrow afternoon. Best of luck!
