Early Decision Applicants

The deadline for Early Decision is coming up in the next few months so I thought it was about time to get a forum running on those ED applicants! I'm personally highly interested in Williams! I made a visit there last month and loved it, I'm completely sold on it and will most probably be applying Early. Who else is thinking of Williams? I know it's extremely competitive so I was wondering who else might be out there who is as excited as I am in applying, and well, I very much hope to see you there next year! Good luck to all of you!

I also love the school and am thinking of applying early…just have to work out the financial side.

Count me in!

What’s hindering me with the application is the ACT. I just need to ace the test to be an “overqualified” applicant.

Good luck to all of you! I hope to see you in Williamstown next year.

Where are you all from? I’m an international student. Does applying early decision still hold an advantage over regular decision for internationals?

I don’t know. I’m also international and I think it can’t hurt. Last year, about 14 internationals got in ED and the total for the class of 2015 is about 30-40. I think Early Decision will be allright because Williams has great financial aid that probably doesn’t get much better (at least I hope so :)).

Good luck to you guys!!

Hi guys, I’m gonna be a frosh this coming year at Williams (Go Ephs!). Schopenhauer, (this may also go for any of you who are worrying about scores) from talking to admissions officers, Williams really cares if you can articulate why you want to be there. While scores and grades are important, you need to differentiate yourself. There are plenty of people who get perfect GPAs and Standardized Test scores who don’t get in. It all comes down to how you distinguish yourself. Make your application memorable. If you play a musical instrument, or play sports, or are just really involved in community service, write about that. Just as there is no generic Williams student, there is no generic applicant. Be individual. At least that was the approach I took. Sorry for ranting, but my point is essentially that if you stress about scores to the detriment of your story, it may turn out to be a bad move for your overall application.

Thanks Ephinephrine! That’s exactly what I needed to hear right now. I’ve definitely been stressing over that. Now I just need to do my overnights to decide between Williams and Bowdoin!

I always love hearing that there are more important things than test scores…

Hi, I’m a rising senior from Philadelphia and I’m definitely interested in applying early to Williams. I visited earlier this summer and loved it. I’m heading up again in the fall for another visit (recruiting trip). I’m done my testing, but I really need to work on my essay. I can’t think of any ideas that aren’t horribly cliche.

So who else is a non-athlete, non-legacy, non-URM, non-First Gen applying to Williams? :P

Me :). I’m a dancer, but not good enough to send any fancy supplemental stuff, so that doesn’t count. Actually my grades are the only great thing about my stats…but I always say: you never know :)

Me! I’m an equestrian but that’s not really considered a collegiate sport. The athletic atmosphere is actually something I’m a bit intimidated by.

Hey! I am international too and considering applying ED to Williams. I am still working on my supplemental essay and thanks for your advice Ephinephrine! :)

beastie - I’m also a non-athlete, non-legacy, non-urm, non-first gen planning on applying
eumi12 - I’m in the same situation… I’m a dancer but not exceptional, I’m debating about the supplemental submission because I’m not sure if it would be helpful or if it would be overlooked. are you planning on applying ED?

I’m going for it! I’ve pretty much had my heart set on Williams for the past few years, though I didn’t visit it until this summer. I can’t wait for December!

I am an international who is applying early as well, I can say that I’m sort of well rounded and have some regular-to-somewhat prestigious awards, so all I need to do is to improve my scores in order to be an ideal candidate :D

@kmac0808: I think I will send some supplemental stuff, just because I want to make every effort to stand out. I’m choreographing something small where I put everything in I’m really good at. I will do that for ballet and modern dance. At least it won’t hurt, that’s for sure…but I just want this so bad that I have to do something about it :). So I’d say go for it!!!

For those of you stressing that you don’t have a “hook,” remember your best hook is your academic record. Williams likes academically exceptional and well-rounded students. It is only if your academics aren’t exceptional, do you have to worry about URM, legacy, athlete, artist, etc.

I agree @kmac0808. Send a supplement in. It not only shows that you spent a lot of time and effort on dance, but you had the motivation to create such a supplement.

okay thanks for the advice! i will definitely send one in that case. good luck to everyone!!! :)

Who else has sent their app in?
