Early Decision Carnegie Mellon University Information System chance

Hi guys,

I would like to ask for my chance of ED CMU Information system. I am asking this question for two reasons:

  1. Whether I have a chance to get into CMU IS
  2. See if the chances are already high enough (because CMU IS already has a 24% admission rate out of 1,655) so that I may be able to REA Stanford (my dream, but not that likely a reach)

Profile:

AIME 8, top 2.5% regional
World Mathematics Team Competition Personal and Team Gold Medal

EC:
School Triathlon Varsity Team/ been on the team for 5 years (one main theme of essays)

Worked on a patent related to autonomous cars (specifically collision avoidance systems) for 2 years G10-G12, received a patent from the US and Taiwan (China patent pending).

Based on my patent, received the Gold Medal and Silver Medal in Ukraine and Warsaw international invention competition (full names: International Salon of Inventions and New Technologies, International Warsaw Invention Show).

2y Internship at National Taiwan Unversity of Science and Technology working on the topic of interfacial phenomenon (my prof. is one of the top names in his field)

  • Learned the theoretical principles behind Interfacial phenomena; Transport phenomena; Wetting phenomena; and Fluid mechanics.
  • Developed and refined a wide range of graduate-level research skills such as communication and interpersonal skills; critical/creative thinking skills; research management skills; knowledge mobilization; and knowledge translation.
  • Presented a poster of my work done in the lab at the 2020 Interfacial Phenomenom Symposium (local)
  • Had a chance to start working on a to-be-published journal
  • (one other main theme of essays)

Technical certificates:
Google IT Support Professional Certificate (In Progress)
Lifeguard license
Level C Swimming Coach
Basic Life Support.

For the essays, I would say the quality is not the top ones that would bring you tears but are moderate~high above average essays that can convey myself well.
LOR: Basically no needs to worry about this part, as I believe I got strong~very strong recommendations.
I’ll add more CV if needed.

Advantages:
I believe that my greatest advantage is having a patent (related to autonomous cars/collision avoidance systems) that these more tech-oriented universities would be interested in. Has awards and certificates to support the invention, and also a central theme in the essay.

Disadvantages:
Stats not the top, not that much EC compared to many people here.

Great thanks.

I think that you are competitive at both schools, with a higher chance at CMU than at Stanford; however, if I were you, I would apply to Stanford REA.
