Early Decision - Emory or Johns Hopkins?

That is the point, having 10-20% of your student body as 1550+ 4.0s is going to skew the stats upwards pretty significantly. The Emory scholars are Ivy material, and that makes Emory look better than it is.

Are you saying emory students are not as bright as JHU except those 10%?

I'm pretty sure JHU also gives out scholarship to get those smart students.
Moreover, it goes for almost every pretigious schools.
For example, WashU even offered my friend air plane ticket to visit their campus and housing. I mean generally those scholar students are top students who drag SAT and GPA average up. It applies to almost every private school in states not just emory.

By traditionally, I meant by commonly believed standards. Most people, I would guess, will say that Hopkins is tougher to get into than Emory.

Also, in the future, please cite your statistics. I couldn't find those numbers on the JHU site.

I have attended both Emory and Johns Hopkins. I have a grad degree from Emory and transferred out of JHU, so I do have a bias. However, I would urge you to look closely at Emory. The SAT scores are skewed because of the Emory scholars. It's possible to get into Emory with a lesser score than the median range suggests. Two Jewish students with no special hooks were accepted last year from my son's school with scores in the lower 1200's.

Make sure and visit. It is essential, both for you to see the school and for the adcoms to know of your interest. They can set up an interview for you with someone in the poli sci dept. (informational, not evaluative).

Emory Scholars is a much more significant program, in terms of percentage of student body, than JHUs scholarship program. Yes, it is easier to get into emory than JHU. If you want to infer that this means the non-scholarship Emory student is not as bright as the average JHU student feel free to make that supposition.

There is nothing wrong with asserting a school is easier to get into than another. My intention is not to offend anyone, truthfully given these two choices I would pick Emory.

Umm, I don't care if Emory is less prestigious than JHU. From what my stats say, I'm an intelligent but lazy student (relatively high SATs, relatively low GPA). So, both will be reaches in varying degrees.
