@eyemgh not worth arguing but I think I posted about this about when my son started in 2012. No matter, I still have it and other information on the admissions and other reports as I indicated. You do a great job helping applicants I am sure they are very appreciative. I don’t spend much time here, mine is graduating in a week with his BS and MS earned in 4 years.
@czs1994, thanks. I absolutely wasn’t the first to understand or discuss the MCA. My initial interest in all the CP admission stuff was actually after my son had applied. There were some posters who without any evidence claimed “Tufts Syndrome” was happening at Poly. I just wanted to understand it more deeply and have just hung out here since.
Do we have evidence that shows ED acceptance MCA are higher than RD’s? Lower % on ED may simply mean the ED pool overall is just not as good as RD’s which is what I saw from my HS. Look there are kids who really like CP and would forgo top brands but the majority of high stat people I know from my HS will ED/EA obvious suspects but not CP. Those who ED CP are mostly not even sure if they could get into mid UC. And why is CP the only CA public school does ED anyway? I just don’t see keeping ED to make sure those who can get into MIT goes to CP a normal use case. Also most people just don’t ‘cross shop’ between Ivies and the likes and CP even though some of the Ivies’ engineering is not that highly ranked. It did not stop Mark and Bill from going to H.
@eyemgh That is what drew me in when he applied in 2011, drove me crazy. I am sure you notice that some will still believe what they want to believe like some student with a 4.8 gpa, and 2400 SAT and 20 math and science classes, who was president of every academic club on campus didn’t get in lol while some average student got into one of the most competitive majors. Just lost interest.
From Cal Poly - Stated reason is that ED worked against low income students:

@oneofthosemoms Yeah just saw that too. I do sympathize with those students who are absolutely sure they want to attend CP SLO and now have to wait until Feb. March or later to see where they shake out. Will be interesting to see how the acceptance - wait list process is affected with just one decision period. For sure it won’t be easy to get in CP SLO regardless. Feeling very grateful we were able to able to take advantage of ED so our kid knew early she would be able attend her “dream school”. Sorry to see it go for those who know CP SLO is where they want to be.
I’ve got a slightly different take on the end of ED. My son was accepted ED to Software Engineering for Fall 2016. He applied to numerous other schools, including UCI, UCD, UCSD, SDSU, CPP, USC, Washington, Texas, Michigan State. Throughout the application process he was very conflicted about going ED at Poly. USC and Poly were is choices 1 and 1A. Ultimately he did apply ED, only because he did not want to be at a competitive disadvantage to those who were applying ED to the most competitive majors. As you know, the admission rates are higher in ED than for RD in the ultra-competitive majors.
When he was accepted ED at Poly, he knew his chances for admission at USC were over. It was kind of bittersweet. Several times he told me that he wished that Poly did not offer ED, so that he could have gone through the whole process with all of his potential choices, without putting himself at a disadvantage. The story ends very well however, since he is at his Choice 1A. Go Mustangs!
